Okay, Oldtimers, make room on the porch
Another returning Hunter (life happens, sadly). I do see some old names still around, and sadly many names still on the forums that I doubt are still active that bring back tons of memories, but man, seeing that these still even exist feels like coming home. I see that there's rumbles about trying to get the forums more active again, so let's do this!

Re: Okay, Oldtimers, make room on the porch
Thanks, folks, it's definitely great to be back and I'm already trying to pound on the leaderboards for a couple of comps. Looks like not much has changed with them, which right now isn't a bad thing as it's nice getting into a familiar groove again.
Is the game still in active development, or have they moved on to CotW pretty much? Though I wasn't a CotW fan (admittedly I haven't played it since like a year after it came out, but I wasn't fond of the "hop from body of water to body of water and shoot over distance" playstyle it favored), I know that one is FAR more popular and I could fully see if they had moved on from this one.

Re: Okay, Oldtimers, make room on the porch
Welcome back! I think your time on the forum pre-dated me, so I've never had the pleasure of interacting with you I don't believe. But it's always nice to make a new friend!
As for your question about development, Call of the Wild was released in 2017 and had different staff working on it at the time. This game was rebranded to Classic and continued to receive development even after COTW released. We actually got a bunch of things from 2017 to 2018-- mission packs for species that didn't have them, antler collectibles, bobcats, Picabeen Bay map, new guns, pointer dog and the eurasian lynx just to name a few big ones. As soon as the game went free to play in May of 2019, we kind of stopped getting any updates for a long time. There really wasn't much communication with the devs at that point either.
Sometime in early 2020, we got the news that a third party company had taken over development of this game. It was still owned by Expansive Worlds but the company Ringtail started working on it. They were pretty regular with updates too, and we got more new things like snow geese, puma, new animal skins, lots of old bug fixes, axis deer, fallow deer, wood grouse, there was something almost every month until the end of 2023. Ringtail (now Magic Media) still has control over the game but leadership changed and updates stopped happening regularly. Last summer, the big Summer Fiesta Event was delayed again and again until we finally found out that there are issues on the backend of the game preventing updates from happening. It seemed like the devs started to figure out some solutions by late fall since they were able to release a Halloween event, though it was not the one they intended. Their own Halloween event was released in February of this year. There have been a couple small updates this year, skull mounts, gun skins and animal skins mostly, but we haven't gotten much else lately.
All that to say, the game is still technically in active development, but I believe it's starting to show its age to the point where the developers are struggling to do much with it anymore. Anytime they add something new, there's a pretty good chance it breaks something old.
Hope that helps you catch up! If you'd like to know exactly everything you missed, visit THE WIKI and it will give you the breakdown!

Pleasure to meet you and welcome back to theHunter! Another 2013 veteran here.
I haven't been on theHunter: Forums too long yet myself, as I am moderating on a different platform (theHunter: (Official) Discord Server). However, I am active here as well.
Since it has been quite some time - If you ever have any questions about the game, please let me know. I am happy to help whenever possible.
Tom

Re: Okay, Oldtimers, make room on the porch
That was a huge help, Dragon! I checked back through my hunt history and the last time I played was for a few months in 2019, but my serious time in the game was last around 2016 so I have a LOT to catch up on. Not the least of which will be catching up on outrider's post count.
(Good to see you, old friend!) I'm thrilled that they at least did a Halloween event last year; those were always a blast, though I never did very well in them, admittedly.
I've got someone lined up next week to help me with getting my streaming settings set up - new PC that I haven't streamed with before, so I want to make sure I have OBS tweaked for it before I try going live - but I'd love to do what I can to get more interest back in the game, and over here in particular. The official comps are great and all, and I'm having a blast with the Summer Fiesta because it's putting me very much outside my comfort zone, but I miss the old forum hunts and comps we used to have. I did try some other hunting games over the years and while they had a few points that I liked, nothing beat the community we had in this place.
