Sound
It's a shame that they chose to put sounds on Huntermate. It gives us way too much information. It not only gives up the direction of the sound but the distance too. Then it shows the animal moving towards us. It screams arcade. (pun intended)
Humans have the ability to know what direction a sound comes from. That's the only info we should have been given. Sounds shouldn't be on Huntermate at all. I wear a headset. It will give me the direction a sound comes from is it's programmed in the game. Too bad it isn't.
Whine is over.

Re: Sound
The location of the sound does not show up on your hunter mate if you don't left-click. There's also a bunch of settings for realism in the settings, like track color, you can completely disable it if you don't want to see tracks light up.
Here is a video of this realism hunting by RavenousFox:

Re: Sound
If we can't tell what direction the sound is coming from on our own. We have to use Huntermate to see what direction.
It's not realistic to not know at all where it came from. I think letting us know the direction like real life would be better than Huntermate. We shouldn't know the exact spot it came from or see the animal moving towards us or not moving. Just let us have direction and nothing else.

Re: Sound
I didn't watch much of that video. He used a lot of aids and unrealistic gear compared to what I do when trying to make it more real.
I have two setups. One for competition that I use a lot of aids and gear. Another one just for myself to simulate my real hunting as much as possible. I doubt many if any would use my simulation setup.

LMAO! I was going sharing what I think the reason for all that in the HunterMate is until I read the last line.OldMtnMan wrote:Whine is over.
It's a shame this game doesn't have 3d sound in it so we can tell direction and distance from sounds. Other games released earlier than this one had those audio features.
You're not alone, MntMan. I think a lot of people have said something about this. If the game engine could do it I'm sure they would have included it.

Re: Sound
This game does have 3D sound, and if your speakers/headphones can handle it, and you have your drivers set correctly, you can tell almost exactly where a sound came from, including behind you. Distance is a bit less accurate IMO, but you still get a pretty good indication.Bort wrote:LMAO! Re: Sound
Really? I have high end Sennheiser headset. I'll have to check my drivers.
The worse case is when a bear is charging and I can't figure out where it's coming from before I get killed.
I can't figure out where footsteps are coming from for any animal. I'll be looking at the direction it should be coming from and i'm expecting for it to come out of the brush any second. Then the steps stop. I check behind me and the bull is standing there 10ft away. Of course when I turn it spooks.

Re: Sound
All of the computers in the room I'm in, there are 3 computers, are hooked up to a professional audio studio through a Mackie 3204VLZ4 with true 7.1 (Bose) professional studio quality surround sound speakers.Fletchette wrote: This game does have 3D sound, and if your speakers/headphones can handle it, and you have your drivers set correctly, you can tell almost exactly where a sound came from, including behind you. My system is more than capable of handling 3d sound. It works amazingly for games, movies, and of course what I built it for (music) that do truly have surround audio features.
This game does not have 3d sound.

Re: Sound
I can't. I laughed at you sharing the bear attack situation because it happens to me often. I hear the bear roaring and stomping and I have to spin around doing 360's and hope I find it because even when I'm using the surround studio sound I can't tell where it is. Directional sound even works in my headset which isn't a very high end one like yours is. Directional sound even works in games and movies that have it through the speakers on the TV's I use as monitors.
I don't deny the possibility my sound settings might possibly be set wrong or something but I highly doubt it. 3d sound works for games and movies that have it and it definitely works through the Mackie/Bose system when I'm recording full bands.
This game doesn't have it. If it does have it it only works for a limited amount of specific devices.
What sound devices do you have, Fletchette?
