Re: New forum
So it would seem a few people are struggling a bit with the colour scheme. What are people's views on this?
I'm really not seeing the problem, but I often hear people complaining about websites and colour schemes and I personally struggle to see the problem. Is it really hard to read the orange banners? Are the contrasts too high?
I spoke briefly with Alena about this tonight after a couple of people started discussing the issue, and she's obviously reluctant to start introducing numerous variations of the theme just because a few people have suggested changes. Ultimately there could be half a dozen themes and someone would still find something to complain about, but if people are genuinely suffering and if it's likely to stop some users frequenting the forum then maybe an alternative is needed in the future. I'm just curious to know what everyone here thinks. The theme can be duplicated easily and a few changes to the CSS file would not be a huge undertaking.
Thoughts?

Re: New forum
Anybody find the "PM user" function that copies/quotes a post & included a link to the post? I always used this to send PM when I moderated a post.
It used to be right...

Re: New forum
Please don't take it the wrong way, David, but I'll probably need some more time to make friends with the new forum, get used to the new design and find all the infos and buttons quicker. The colour scheme... yes, I would prefer something less bright maybe. But I'll get used to it and the people will too!caledonianblues wrote:So it would seem a few people are struggling a bit with the colour scheme. What are people's views on this?

@Tod, if you look at the profile section on the left of a post, next to "Contact" you will see three dots. Click that then the message button. That will create the message and include the info you need.
@Marc, all feedback welcome. The colours are slightly different to what I handed back to Expansive Worlds. Calle and Marcus made some changes, but I have to say I prefer lighter themes these days. The last forum theme I worked on was going to be the exact opposite (similar to Steam) but I find that when I look at light text on a dark background for too long, I end up still seeing the text when I look away. I guess it's all down to personal preference. I expect if enough people have a problem with it, another CSS / variation of the theme will be in order. If a second one gets made though, it absolutely needs to be right because it's not going to feasible to keep making themes in an attempt to please everyone. That being said, there's not going to be another theme that moves buttons / icons around. Well not one that I'm doing anyway

Re: New forum
i like the new style and you should leave it as is.
maybe create some different color schemes if you have time and are allowed to by EW!? this way people can choose.

Re: New forum
I'm with those that are saying it's too bright. In the Board Index & Forum views, the subject text (both orange & gray) do not contrast enough with the background. They could be a little darker.
And the background, at least for me is too bright. The whole thing looks better if I turn down my brightness on my monitor, but then everything else is too dark.
The badges do look kinda funny with the right side chopped off.
Overall, I like the layout. And the new functionality is cool. It'll take a little while to get used to where things have moved, but that's OK. (P.S. I already abused the change post date function: http://forum.thehunter.com/viewtopic.ph ... 32#p778632)
And I agree that for this type of forum one style is OK. I just checked on my little 2.5" x 2.5" blackberry screen, and it actually looks pretty decent, so no additional "mobile" style is necessary.

Re: New forum
Yeah the orange badges need to be fixed. I believe Alena has asked Marcus to look into that. I don't have access to the server so it's not something I can change. Actually I can't change anything now, but I can create an alternate theme / colour scheme if asked.

Re: New forum
I'd still like to see the "Topics I've posted in" versions of the topic icons. I know this is built-in functionality, it's just a matter of creating the icons & installing them.
Hey, cool! the number of posts is a link to "Search User's Posts"

Re: New forum
I'd love to see a "night theme". The forums are really, really bright when viewing at night.
Am I doing a good job? I thrive on feedback! Please PM me, or my bosses Alena Rybik or Tod1d with comments, criticisms, or accolades!
