Re: A Vehicle for theHunter?
Sadly Peter Johansson no longer works on Classic, as you know Hoo. He was a very thorough person who always sought impeccably high standards for the game, without compromise. Him and Daniel Jansson. If either of them were still working on Classic, I would have confidence that we would never see an ATV or other motorised vehicle in this game. I mean no disrespect to the other developers working on Classic. We all have our own ideas and standards. I know we're all speculating at this stage, but we at least know the vehicle has wheels, and I very much doubt it will be a bike. I just hope some extensive thought has gone into considering the impact such an addition will have on game balance. Leaderboards, competitions and missions would never be the same again. And if the developers were smart and introduced the appropriate restrictions, would the price tag (whatever that may be) make the item undesirable? I have bought every single item ever released for this game, including stuff I never intended to use, because I support the game and the developers. I would never buy a motorised vehicle. I believe it would be contributing to the potential downfall of a great game which, although not without its faults, has been shaped into something quite precious over the years. It sounds dramatic, but this is one thing that could potentially put an abrupt end to my eight year long love affair with theHunter.HooCairs wrote:An interesting post from former art specialist at EW, Peter Johansson: https://forum.thehunter.com/viewtopic.p ... ar#p351125Already back in 2012 they had apparently discussed vehicles "many times", and apparently to "restrict operations" were part of the discussions. Sure the game has evolved a lot in the meantime, but the Whiteharts and Loggers and Redfeathers are still the same, just with more animals.Peter Johansson wrote:8. Transportation has also been discussed many times. I wouldn´t be impossible to add a car or an ATV, but questions rather concern gameplay consequenses and how to restrict operation of these things. Also one of the charms of this game is that it sometimes take a long time to get to certain places.
All that being said, any vehicle, motorised or not, will no doubt make a lot of money. At least in the short term.

Well said and put, Cal. I'm hoping 'wheely' was mentioned to throws us off course. I would not buy an ATV or other motorized vehicle either, however, I would certainly buy a canoe of kyak- for WRR and other places where it would be appropriate to use. If it is motorized, I mirror your thoughts...sadly. Peace.caledonianblues wrote:Sadly Peter Johansson no longer works on Classic, as you know Hoo. Re: A Vehicle for theHunter?
I think that if vehicles and i mean atv, or some kind of golf cart, whatever with an engine and wheels is implemented, the multiplayer hunts gonna be more like a Mad Max Fury Road stile chase than a hunt, we cant even imagine what can become, or what new bugs can bring.
But this one at least would be nice:
But seriously, if a wolf is enough to put frenetic the elks and other animals in TgT, a bullet can spook all in 300+ meters(depending graphic settings)imagine an Atv, the moment you leave the lodge everything alive gonna run for their lives around the reserve non stop.

In the very short term if you ask me - if it works the way I imagine, it'll cripple tent sales significantly.caledonianblues wrote:All that being said, any vehicle, motorised or not, will no doubt make a lot of money. At least in the short term.
There's no need for a motorised vehicle in my opinion, not at all. And I share all your concerns that it has the potential to finally kill game balance.
For me it's just a logical consequence of game balance losing its meaning to both the devs and a majority of the community in the past year or so. Everything has to be easy and there's no real sense of achievement any more. That's just my personal perception and opinion and a bit off-topic...

In my opinion there it could be interesting, where possible of course, just boats.

Re: A Vehicle for theHunter?
If it is a ATV, car or bike, how about make it fast on roads and really, really slow anywhere else. The CotW's ATV is not too bad, and somehow they fixed the initial herding that could be done. I have rarely seen any running animals in my last outings.
Some Classic reserves seem completely unsuitable though at all for any vehicle, some others might work.
BAD
- Val-des-Bois is a big river, hard to cross even on foot, and then hills and high mountains.
- You would never take a car into a Piccabeen Bay kind of place.
- Rougarou Bayou has practically only swamps.
MIXED (all have rough terrain off the roads)
- Hemmeldal
- Settler Creeks
- Logger's Point
- Redfeather Falls
- Timbergold Trails
OK
- Whitehart Island
- Hirschfelden
- Bushrangers Run
- Whiterime Ridge
