Lately I noticed my (LV.23) Retriever dog seems to be worse at following commands lately more than usual. See, normally my dogs have followed commands well to such a degree that I don't pay it much thought. For example when I command my Retriever to lay down, he does. I haven't really noticed much problem with him fallowing commands up until lately between about Lv.20-23. Lately, I have to command him 4-6 times before he obeys commands like siting, laying down, etc. It's frustrating at times. Sometimes he doesn't respond to retrieve commands either.
Am I missing something about the dogs? In the wiki I read that dogs have stamina and this affects how responsive they are? It seems to me lately, generally my dog is far less responsive to my 'lay down' command more than usual and this has been consistent from hunt to hunt throughout my hunts lately. That's why it got my attention? Any clarity others may have to offer about this would be appreciated.

Can't say I have the same issues you're having. Recently I've only used the retriever, but it worked flawlessly.

Re: Why Dog Not Following Basic Commands?
Interesting! I'm trying to figure out if I'm experiencing some sort of bug. As I say, this 'sudden change' in my retriever's behavior happened recently at around LV. 21 and continues at Lv. 23 consistently every hunt where he doesn't respond to my 'lay down' command. I have to command him to lay down 4-6 times before he obeys. This is not normal. I always remember my retriever being responsive to my commands. I'm interested to know if others are having any problems, could this be a bug?
If other's aren't having this problem, maybe I'll try to get some screen capture footage and investigate this issue more thoroughly with both my Retriever, and German Pointer, running through all the commands. I tend to take my Retriever on every hunt because I use him as my pack animal. Therefore, his recently stopping obeying my commands to lay down when I'm preparing my shots caught my attention because it was a dramatic change.
* I forgot to post this topic in 'Dog Kennel' forum where it probably belongs.

Re: Why Dog Not Following Basic Commands?
* Update *
In addition to recent issues with my Retriever described above. Yesterday when I used my (Lv.23) Retriever for duck hunting I noticed that the dog didnt' respond to every command to retrieve ducks. For example, it happened several times that out of 4-8 ducks dog would retrieve all but the last two laying only about 40m away, and I had to go collect the last couple ducks. In that case, he wouldn't respond to commands to retrieve at all no matter how many times I commanded to retrieve. Dog wasn't exhausted either. I started the hunt with ducks and this happened. The previous issues also continue to happen. Dog doesn't lay down, until I have commanded 4-6 times. Other commands were unreliable as well. Non of this is normal from my experience. As stated, this started happening recently.
Should I get screen capture footage? Could this be a bug?

Re: Why Dog Not Following Basic Commands?
Not a bug. It's how the game and dogs in the game work. At level 23 a dog's loyalty skill is only at 3. The loyalty skill maxes out at 6 so at 3 there's only a 50/50 chance it will obey commands. We may have to give them the same command multiple times until they perform the command. The loyalty skill reaches the maximum of 6 when a dog reaches level 48.
It might be strange and seem all of a sudden. You may have been getting lucky with the 50/50 (and less) draws previously.
As you probably know the chance stuff in this game is randomly generated. We can hit the jackpot consistently for a long time and then all of a sudden we keep getting a less appealing result.

That makes sense. I forgot that the dog behavior is random and clusters similarly to animal luck. Ironically, today my dog seemed to behave like a good boy after weeks of having a bad streak. I gave him lots of treats for being a good dog.Bort wrote: ↑April 15th, 2025, 10:14 pm Not a bug. It's how the game and dogs in the game work. At level 23 a dog's loyalty skill is only at 3.
