Here in SW WA state U.S. I hear and see a lot of wildlife on the fringe of town where I live. I've seen and heard a lot of different wildlife depending on what area of this part of the state. The animals I see close to populated areas aren't necessarily the animals I see if I'm in more wooded wilderness areas.
There's a strange thing that puzzles me here about the animal wildlife. As far as deer and big game, blacktail deer are very common. I see them roaming my yard and fields on adjecent properities every other day as I live on the edge of town. Black Bear and Roosevelt Elk are common to the area, though rare to be seen anywhere close to town. So if I am in the wooded hills away from town and people, the Bear and Elk are there to be seen. Close to town, are deer (at day) and Coyotes (at night).
There's this weird thing though about the 30 to 50 acre property bordering my house. It has a pasture and a large patch of woods. I don't see Elk close to my house on the edge of town. However I hear calls that sound like female Elk calls coming from this patch of woods in the adjecent property at night. This is at night. I don't hear deer call if I see them. I don't see Elk around my house. I hear female Elk calls. I don't see Elk though.
Tonight I heard something coming from those patch of woods by my house that I don't normally hear. I heard an animal call from those woods that sounded like the 'Sitka Deer' calls in theHunter. As far as I'm aware we don't have Sitka in my neck of the woods. I'm trying to figure out what animal might have made a call that sounds like a Sitka?
Remember, I'm not a hunter. I'm a nature lover who is familiar with the local wildlife though.
