Callers
I imagine callers have been used in a basic way for a very long time but as a commercial product when did callers become commonly used in hunts?

Re: Callers
They were whistles in the beginning. Later they started to make callers from bones. About 6500 years ago.
Yeah, i'd say they've been around awhile. Personally, I don't use them, but that's me. I don't like tricking the animal i'm hunting

Re: Callers
Thanks for the info. I'm undecided in whether to use them.

Re: Callers
Callers and scents used in both game and real life are used to bring the animal towards you and increase the chance of a successful hunt.
Whether or not you use them depends on what you wish to achieve in terms of your own satisfaction.
In real life I use only my own vocal cords to call red deer during the rut. ... but have used shed antlers on a few occasions and rattled some bushes with some degree of success.
Here in New Zealand hunters tend to carry their animals on their Backs, so after a carry with a smelly old stag or boar you will tend to smell just like one.
When working as a pest destruction trapper I would use the bladder from a female rabbit to put the urine on my gin traps. That resulted in the occasional male rabbits actually being caught by the nose.

Old hunters never die. They just sit around the campfires and tell the biggest lies.
