Hi, I'm Scout (Frank),
I used to play THC without any problems for several years, but I haven't played for 2-3 years. In the meantime, I have also gotten a new PC and wanted to give the game another try.
I reinstalled THC via Steam and started it up, logged in, and the launcher appeared. All my purchased items are there. However, when I start a single-player game, I only get a black screen, and if I click, it turns white. In the Task Manager, "thehunter.exe" is showing as (not responding).
This status remains until I close the game.
Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't found anything that helped through searching.
Best, Frank

Re: TheHunter.exe not responding
Good morning, Frank
I hope you are doing well.
The Hunter Classic is quite an old game. A litte over 15 years old to be exact. Pc's and laptop's these days seem to have a lot more trouble running The Hunter Classic, than pc's and laptop's that are a few years older. This has to do with the advanced hardware pc's and laptop's have these days, besides that.
I have an MSI Gaming Laptop with the following specifications: i7 Intel Processor, NVIDIA 3070, 16GB RAM, 2TB Hard drive, 1440p Screen, 240hz. I had to change quite a lot of settings in order to let the game run smooth when I purchased this laptop.
Side note that is worth mentioning; Windows is not helping either. Windows is advancing faster and faster with new updates and features. theHunter: Classic is a game that was released in April 2009… The game was meant to be played on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Definitely not; Windows 10 and Windows 11. But, we do not have a choice since these older windows versions aren't supported anymore.
I am sorry to read you are expierencing problems with theHunter: Classic. There are a couple of things we could try to solve this issues. Please take the following steps if you are unable to launch or join a (Single Player/Multiplayer game) in theHunter: Classic or face any other problems: (Black screen, Game Crashes, Stuttering).
1. Close theHunter Classic
2. Close Steam completely.
3. Press Windows key + R
4. Type %appdata%
5. Delete the following folders and files:
"theHunter"
"theHunterSteam"
"LauncherSettings_live.cfg"
"TheHunterSettings_live.bin"
"TheHunterSettings_steam_live.cfg"
(theHunter: Classic files and folders are recreated every time you launch your game. This also means you have to set up your in-game graphics again).
Have you tried to re-verivy your Steam Files as well? Might be worth a try. You are able to re-verifify your Steam Files by following the down below mentioned steps.
1. Open Steam.
2. Go to The Hunter Classic.
3. Go to properties.
4. Go to Installed Files.
5. Verify Game Files.
If the above mentioned steps did not work. I would recommend to submit a ticket to the support team through this link; https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
I truly hope your issue will be solved as soon as possible! If you have any further question, please let me know. I am happy to help whenever possible.
I hope you are doing well.
