.17 HMR Lever Action Rifle, 0 Harvestvalue on air kill

Post by nachthexe »

Hello all,

today I shot a snow goose with a .17 HMR Lever Action Rifle with HV ammo in the air and got a 0 harvest value.
The .17 HMR Lever Action Rifle + HV ammo is cleared for snow geese. A 0 harvest value should only apply for a ground kill or excessive damage by several shots or high caliber. Neither was the case here. So why a 0 stat?

Hi nachthexe!! Good to see you are still around!! :)

I frequently shoot all three species of geese with the .17 HMR, (airborne and on the ground) and harvest values range literally from zero to 100% (depending on the bird, shot placement and distance I suppose.) I don't know how it is calculated, but, for example, I recently had a flying head shot on a snow goose that registered 90% HV, and a 100% kill that was a body shot, in the same hunt. (The body kill was actually further away.) I certainly had mostly zero HV's, but I also had 1%, 14%, 36%, 45%, 47%, and 54%, and of course 90% and 100%.

I leave it to you to draw any conclusions you can from this.... ;) Good Hunting Forever to you nachthexe!! Kind regards, Jimbo :P
