New Distance For Caplock.

Post by OldMtnMan »

I keep wondering what the max distance the caplock will kill a bull elk at. I just took one at 56.9m with open sights. I'm not sure how much farther to test it?

How about you? What's your distance?

Nobody hunt with the caplock? Knowing max killing distance would be good to know for everyone who will use the caplock.

No idea the range is that far. What did you kill at those ranges? Was it flat ground? Can you show the report I showed for those shots?

Thanks.

The furthest shot with the caplock for me is 67.8ms. Not even sure I know what it was I dropped. I'd have to look back in my history. I think I've read on the forum that 60ms is the max distance for a 1s-1k- I'm sure it could go further than that, but only bruise an animal... ;) Respectfully,

I was thinking 60m would be about it. I'd love to see the report on those shots by calamar. I might try longer shots if it can go that far. My shot hit the lung and heart but didn't make it to the liver. That's telling me i'm close to the limit. I'm open to be wrong though.

Yeah, that is about the safest 1s-1k distance that I would rely on. That is what makes the caplock feel original - maybe, and gives us a sense of realism. ;) Respect,

My buddy always killed elk at 100m with his .50 cal Hawken. So, 60m is a bit short to reality. I always used a .54/.58, so I can't compare. I always put 60m as my limit but knew the gun would shoot farther. I felt 60m was more of a challenge to get that close. It's much easier in game but I still like to get close.

I'm doing this because sometimes I can't get close and i'm out of range with the caplock. Like if a bull elk is on the other side of the river and just won't come across. He'll see me if I cross and he won't come. In that case I carry the 30R as a backup and shoot it. If I knew the caplock would shoot farther i'd take the shot and stop bring the 30R with me. I hate to use it when i'm hunting traditionally but it's hard to pass up a good scoring bull when in a comp.

Hi Pete, I too was amazed when I saw my stats! and yet (https://www.thehunter.com/fr/#profile/c ... s/lifetime) I don't shoot more than 100m with the caplock
I think it was at "val des bois" a bear or a red deer but
my memory and my age are playing tricks on me! can be BCkidd little
know how to find?
Sincerely ;)

Well, that is a surprise. Do you remember if the ground was level or were you shooting down from a higher altitude?
