Sliding Elk?
I decided to try the "Elk Paradise" setup that Dyeuz shared (thank you it works!) and try the single pin bow that I avoid and ended up having a great time out:
BUT the last three elk that I shot each resulting in an already dead animal sliding off into the woods! Like far away, out of view, faster than I can run, sliding along the ground away from the pile in three different directions, like an invisible force. In the screenshot the elk on the upper-right is sliding away to who knows where!? I ended up scaring away the cows in the picture so I could pick everybody up before more slid away but I never did find the sliders...
Is there a limit on the size of animal piles? What the heck happened? Since it was in TT did my elk get abducted?

I could use the familiar "Aliens" meme now, but... yeah, if you leave too many dead animals lying around, some of them might start to levitate or slide away. Collect them every once in a while!toxicdog wrote:Is there a limit on the size of animal piles? What the heck happened? Since it was in TT did my elk get abducted?

Re: Sliding Elk?
I have seen this happen several times, but only at TgT. In all cases that I've witnessed it, I had several carcasses on the ground. I've seen both Rocky Mountain Elk & Grey Wolves slide this way. I recently started picking up carcasses without allowing them to pile up, which seems to prevent it as a workaround. Obviously, if you kill something nice, you'll want to harvest it right away just in case.

Re: Sliding Elk?
...It happened to me also in the past in TgT with Elk cows all around my tower . I had about 10-12 of them .
Now, in any reserve , i don't let it pile up more than 4@6 dead animals at a time .

Re: Sliding Elk?
Thank you I almost got out one of my foil hats!
At least it is common but still a strange and unpleasant event in a notoriously strange unit
I will watch my piles (though fun to build)

Yep that's the one. As it turns out it is silent and deadly (no pun here)You mean the Snakebite?

The "Elk Parasite" location was revealed here:

I didn't get the incredible wave until the third visit (mules and wolves between), but it's a great find indeed (all credit to Dyeuz, whom I gift an ePint )

Re: Sliding Elk?
Many thanks for the link.
The Snakebite is a great bow.
It is powerful and easy to use,
but the recurve bows are much quieter.
