No developer has confirmed this. I have asked the same question years ago and didn't get an answer either. To add to my doubts:
Mountaineer wrote:They don't work out nearly that far, from what I have read over the years from the devs is that the caller distances and duration of effect varies from species to species.
Tanngnjostr wrote:The duration of effect varies, but the distance is the same for almost all species - 220 meters which was the old render distance.
I would like to see this confirmed, like Mountaineer I have doubts.
I doubt that a dev will officially confirm this, but it's my experience. If it calls, it can be called in. I rarely encounter animals within render range that can't be called in - and in these cases it's usually because they're still nervous or because they're trotting - which happens a lot with group species that are trying to follow their leader or regrouping after being spooked. For which species do you see a different pattern?

OK, I just tried it. I pulled in a red fox, and 3 red deer from ~280-300m (measured straight to the animal). I was on low settings, so the render range was 220m. So, I'm going with, "Yes."

So it can be called from longer if you use the same trick for long shooting altitude+distance?.

Yes. There is no other way I could have the render distance set to 220, and call animals in from 300m away.
That is a very interesting discovery, the distance is still probably 220mts in same flat ground, but the animals can be lured to higher places(and more distance added) if the terrain is uneven like in mountains of VdV. or the mountains in WRR,

Render range is tied to scene complexity settings?
Edit: Nevermind, confirmed by looking at game settings. I have always played at high settings so I did not know this.

On "low" scene complexity, the render range is 220m maximum horizontal vision.
On "medium" scene complexity, the render range is 270m maximum horizontal vision.
On "high" scene complexity, the render range is 320m maximum horizontal vision

Thank you, found where it spells that out for me. Never realized it.
Ok, glad someone figured out what I was asking.
The calling ranges and durations are all listed in the wiki on the caller page.
What I was interested in was if the caller range could be extended like the render range, by using an altitude advantage.
Seems that it might be possible.
