There are many factors to consider when selecting your long range gun.
- Does it have a good penetration?
- Does it take high zoom scopes?
- What is the wobble at your current shooting level for it?
- Do you know how much you need to adjust your rifle against bullet drop over the given distance and with the currently mounted scope?
I have been using the 9.3x62 for long shots on animals that do not allow the .340. The reason is I prefer its aim point on the long range reticle over that of other rifles. Penetration is better for the .30R.

Yesterday i made my first attempts at long range shooting with a .300 and the .340, i noticed that the 340 requires less adjustment for the bullet drop, but then you cant shoot a Sitka with it, so it depends on what animals is gonna be used. But those 2 seems like a sure bet.

Only with the right scope......... unless you're not picky with pin-point accuracy.TreeKiwi wrote:My exact thoughts as well, the .300 is great.DYEUZ wrote:For me , the reliable .300 is my choice for pretty much all situations .
Found from exp that some , like the 9.3 break , drops way too much for long , long distances .My opinion of course .
It would be nice to fine tune a scope in to what distance a player likes to shoot a rifle at.
But now since there is only 1 long distance range scope you have to rely on it.
I'd just like to see the 5.5-22x56 fit on other capable rifles, like the 243, 270, 30-06, not just what is though by EW to be appropriately long distance enough.
Something like IRL...................

Brilliant idea! If we were allowed to set a user defined zero distance before the hunt that would be an excellent addition.gas56 wrote: It would be nice to fine tune a scope in to what distance a player likes to shoot a rifle at.

It has been suggested too, but maybe now that ERR has been implemented and we can shoot over 500mts the zeroing could be the next big addition in gameplay terms.
