Why are we hunting a protected species?

Post by nachthexe »

Magpie Geese are a protected species in the Northern Territory of Australia.
https://nt.gov.au/environment/animals/w ... gpie-goose

Their population in the south seems to have already vanshed because the wet land there have been drained. While there is still a seemingly large number of them around, numbers are declining for s species that is basically a living fossil.

I understand that EW wanted to offer a new species but why a protected one? Yes this is a game and no animals are hurt, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

JUST the northern territory of AU. They are listed as "Least Concern" in conservation status in the rest of their range.

If their population in the EHR starts to dwindle, we'll stop hunting them. ;)

In the ER it is not a protected species...
Because it is not real......
and has nothing to do with REAL life.
It is a game so enjoy it like Hoo Cairs does........... :D
shoot to your hearts content.................... ;)
And maybe we will get lions soon!

It's just a game. I don't see anything wrong with shooting s pixelated animal.

Remember this the next time Africa is brought up. Keep this conversation in mind the next time we talk about hunting the Big 5.

A snippet from the wiki:

"This species is plentiful across its range, although this is significantly reduced in comparison to the range at time of European settlement. The range once extended as far south as the Coorong and the wetlands of the southeast of South Australia and Western Victoria. For Australia as a whole, it is not threatened and has a controlled hunting season when numbers are large."

We also talked to people who hunt them :)

Also direct copy from the link you mention.

Threats
  • hunting if it is not managed sustainably.
  • Geese are also threatened by lead shot poisoning.
  • Lead shotgun pellets build up heavy metal in the water and in animals that live in those waters. Magpie geese use the pellets to grind their food.
  • If hunting, you should use non-toxic shotgun pellets.
  • You need a permit to hunt magpie geese.
Cheers, I hope this helps to clear up confusion!

I wonder if people in Africa are offended by North American reserves in their games
