I've seen similar weird stuff going on the inventory quite a lot lately. Most often I get the ammo boxes to somehow slip into the scope slot. I think I've also seen few times some random gun in the ammo slot but usually it's the ammo trying to go in to scope slot.

At least, for being positive, it works ok when I try again so it doesn't cause any real issuess of not getting the inventory and equipment set up for the hunt.
