I think the reason why is because .45 sabots are a bit to big for being used on turkey

Maybe if you used the.50 there would be no turkey left to harvest... just feathers....
My opinion may not be right, but it is the one I like most :D

A roundball fired from a traditional muzzleloader and a conical bullet fired from a modern muzzleloader are two very different beasts. That said, the .50 roundball from the traditional muzzleloader is really a bit overkill for any turkey already.

I think the .50 roundball was permitted for historical reasons (IRL and game), not because it makes sense. No one in their right mind is going to shoot a turkey with a .45cal sabot or .50cal round from a modern muzzle-loader, but sure, many many years ago people probably did IRL if it was they only firearm they owned (although I'd think they were loading with shot and wadding rather than a solid ball).
Personal Bests...

Round balls dont seem to bloodshot meat as much as modern bullets. Still I wouldnt want a 50cal hole in the middle of my turkey breast.

Even .50 BMG would be Ok If you hit head or neck - except your dog hopes to get these parts of the turkey. ;)
