I agree. For me the 30R is much better for bears, hogs and wapitis. It's still my favorite.Nathan112244 wrote:This rifle has alot of power, but it doesn't take down hogs like you would think.. i kinda feel like the .30 R is better for pigs then this but for the largest species list this rifle is great

Re: 9.3x74R O/U Break Action Rifle - Feedback
I like 'em both, the .30R and this new one.
I've shot some bears at range and the 9.3x74R has some more power to it. Not much, but noticable. It also has some bullet drop at range. I would say if you aim for the shoulder at 220m you'll hit the middle of the front leg. That's not the case with the .30R. I have a spot where I try this out at VdB.
The penetration can be tested at the range at RFF. Shoot a moose from the front and the 9.3x74 will always go back through the intestines which the .30R not always succeed doing.
The advantage of the .30R is the 12x scope of course.

Re: 9.3x74R O/U Break Action Rifle - Feedback
Finaly got home, did a hunt on whiterime ridge last night to test the 9.3x74R at range against moose and bison, and it's the first gun ive realy noticed the bullet drop on - and the first one i've had to hold over an animals back to get a good shoulder shot, had alot of moose run away from me - but it did drop every sambar i shot just fine, only found a few bison to test it on, and they all ran away, even though it is listed for the biggest species, it's definately a gun that requires better shot placement than the .340, 45-70, or 405, i guess that comes with the territory of being useable on much smaller game than those rounds - but otherwise, very nice to have a gun to take onto whiterime and take everything from bison to sheep and sitka with, and it's listed for everything on picabeen and redfeather, so if you have to have a do everything gun, the 9.3x74mmR does it better than most anything else i own so far

I must say I like it overall.
It don't feel it is over powered like the .30R. It is defiantly not a replacement for .340 or the 45-70 and I really like the iron sights.
My only gripes are the sound. It is a bit lack luster.
the scope. it is ok for what it is but the recital is no good on light colored maps like WRR. I think the addition of another scope would be great maybe something on the idea of the 2-10x42.
