A lot of the animals are quite absurd but there are plenty of real water buffaloes that do look more or less like that. I general think of the animals in tHC as being different subspecies created for the EHR. Personally I find the Water Buffalo fairly cool looking even though not super realistic in terms of horn size. And yes I did see water buffalo irl.HPitte wrote:When is EW going to address the absurdity of how large the Water Buffalo horns are? Has anyone in EW ever actually researched real Water Buffalos? It's really easy.
Here's how: Go to your favorite search engine, type in "water buffalo", and then look at a bunch of real-world images of them.

I dare you(or anyone else in the game who agrees with you) to bring up your favorite search engine, enter "water buffalo world records" or any such, look at images and/or visit the actual web pages, and still claim that the models in this game are anywhere even close to reality. The water buffalo in this game are INSANELY ridiculous. "Plenty", you say. Hahahahahah, right.Comrade_Floof wrote:A lot of the animals are quite absurd but there are plenty of real water buffaloes that do look more or less like that. And please, feel free to link all the ones that prove me wrong. Shouldn't be any problem, since there's "plenty of them right?

Well, there does appear to be quite a difference in domestic vs. wild water buffalo, and also what area they are from. The ones that look closest to the in games ones are from Australia, which is what (I believe?) the Picky Bean map is based on.HPitte wrote:I dare you(or anyone else in the game who agrees with you) to bring up your favorite search engine, enter "water buffalo world records" or any such, look at images and/or visit the actual web pages, and still claim that the models in this game are anywhere even close to reality. Good post! There you have it HPitte- you called out to anyone to prove that the WB are as in game. Apparently some are. So, now we know. Is that a joke? None of those come even close to the behemoth racks in Piccabeen Bay. Lol really? You think EW's Water Buffalo are even close to reality? Please.BCKidd wrote:Good post! I refer you to my previous post on this. Re: Release Notes - 10th May (New Fur Variants)
I've seen that picture. Before Piccabeen Bay was even a thought. I've been wanting for someone to post it, thank you. What you didn't include was the article that went along with it which stated that this animal is a freak of nature and that no other information was available. Sadly, I can no longer find the actual article, but it sure wasn't Twitter that presented that picture to the world. By your, and others', standards there's "plenty of them". The water buffalo in this game are grossly exaggerated. The most over-exaggerated species in the game, from what I can tell, based on looks alone. Piccabeen Bay as a whole is EW's most screwed up reserve. Even the missions. Given the state of EW at the time it was created, there's no mystery why, but the water buffalo model is the biggest foul-up of the whole reserve IMO. To defend the freakish nature of the water buffalo model speaks volumes about where your loyalties lie, and it isn't the players or realism. And let's not get into a big "realism" debate. We all know this is a video game and just about everything surrounding the IRL world of hunting in this game is exaggerated/skewed, and I for one and happy for it. It's a video game, meant for fun, I get it, most of us get it. But the water buffalo models, the male models specifically, are a bad joke. And could be easily fixed. I wouldn't even care if they didn't even touch the scoring, because who cares. They look ridiculous in this game. The most ridiculous of them all.JimboCrow wrote:HPitte wrote:Is that a joke? **If anyone has the article, or ANY article on that animal I would love to see it. I've always wondered if the article I read was "official" or if it was just some picture that got tossed around the internet as some kind of right-column clickbait that I clicked on. All I remember is that the article was short and said the animal was a freak of nature. No matter, it's certainly the most outstanding image of a water buffalo I have ever seen in my life and that none other comes close to it. Just like the average-to-large males in Piccabeen Bay are to every other picture or video of IRL water buffalo except for that ONE.

Re: Release Notes - 10th May (New Fur Variants)
First of all, I didn't say there are "plenty of them," I said "I don't know how common they are but they do exist." I was surprised to learn the game models didn't look like real water buffaloes so I did a search as you suggested, and found a picture just like the ones in the game in the first couple of images, so I posted it. There was no article attached to the image that I "didn't include." It was among several other photos of water buffaloes in my Google search for water buffalo images. Period.HPitte wrote:I've seen that picture. Before Piccabeen Bay was even a thought. I've been wanting for someone to post it, thank you. Second, I have no particular "loyalties" to the water buffalo (or any other animal models for that matter) but I do love the game, including Piccabeen Bay. If the water buffalo are freakish then I would prefer they were fixed, but they won't be, so relax. I dislike incorrect models as much as you do, but again, I did an unbiased search based on your criterion. If you had acknowledged earlier the image I posted, I would not have made the second post as matter-of-factly as I did, so save your disdain and disrespect for your loved ones.
Finally, plenty of animals look ridiculous in this game, it is what it is. This is a 12 year-old F2P game with an extremely tight budget, and a skeleton staff working hard just to keep the pay cheques coming in. IT.IS.WHAT.IT.IS. There are plenty of other hunting games out there if you're not completely satisfied with this one; I'm off to Piccabeen to complete my Daily Mission and harvest a few Magpie geese, let my dog fetch them and give him a few treats. There's a good boy. Regards, Jim.
