Re: Status Update - 1st March 2018
I have no problem finding them. I've hung around packs for hours and no calls from them. I've gone in and out of render range, nothing. Hours wasted just sitting there waiting for calls. Killed some, went and hung around the ones that fled...no calls.FR_Bugs wrote:Go on the west part of the map, on snow hills, Start south and go to up north, you'll find them for sure.TrueshotM wrote: I used to get the ptarmigan calls on Hem...now I have a bird mission to get a call from each bird species and I've spent hours hanging around those dang birds on HEM and they will never call for me now that I need the gms and have collected calls from all the others.

Just go hunt there for a while and the call will come. But don't look for them hunt other things.TrueshotM wrote:I have no problem finding them. I know it sounds stupid but it worked for me.

Nothing sounds stupid when nothing has worked so far. I do recall hearing the calls when doing my Reindeer hunting and could care less about the ptarmies so I totally believe you. Thanks RB, I'll give it another shot, you gave me a lil hopeRidgeBack69 wrote:Just go hunt there for a while and the call will come. I remember doing that one,... it took a while,..TrueshotM wrote:I used to get the ptarmigan calls on Hem...now I have a bird mission to get a call from each bird species and I've spent hours hanging around those dang birds on HEM and they will never call for me now that I need the gms and have collected calls from all the others.stancomputerhunter wrote:Yeah, putting the birds on there killed it for me, along with HEM and VDB.1Al wrote: I'll never understand their unsuccessful choice to spoil TT, the best reserve of TH.
just stick close to their tracks, find different birds & flocks, and sooner or later you'll get a cooperating bird.
P.S. be ready with the H.M.,.. click on everything you hear.

It's a pain in the ass to get the calls- I remember doing the rock ptarm one - I laid on the rocks in VDB forever, I think it was one of the holiday things you had to do (if memory serves me right) - no way I'd ever do the regular ones unless it was all I had left - So I started shooting them with the 30-06 (works great btw) and I finally hear some weird call and that was it! I bet it took me an hour- The ones on Hemm were simple enough. I found a spot they had been pooping and walking around and layed down and within 15 min I think they started fluttering around and finally landed all around me, they were practically walking on top of me and I got those calls- In those hills around the stone thing.TrueshotM wrote:Nothing sounds stupid when nothing has worked so far. I'll second Stan, the birds really messed up ibex and Hemm hunting for me- One of my best bear bait spots is now filled with birds 9 out of 10 spawns so I took it down. The ones on TGT are no problem, I don't hunt those areas anyway and besides, if it weren't for ridgeback I wouldn't even know where they are-

The ptarmies definitely screwed up the Ibex hunting. Hard enough to hunt down something you cant call bait or throw scent spray down for, on top of the fact that they can reach places you can not shoot them and get them at. Throw in something that spooks em from 100m away.Radamus wrote:It's a pain in the ass to get the calls- I remember doing the rock ptarm one - I laid on the rocks in VDB forever, I think it was one of the holiday things you had to do (if memory serves me right) - no way I'd ever do the regular ones unless it was all I had left - So I started shooting them with the 30-06 (works great btw) and I finally hear some weird call and that was it! That's it! It's the damn spooking! It's horse doo doo - They were already one of the toughest animals in the EHR without that.TrueshotM wrote:The ptarmies definitely screwed up the Ibex hunting. I'm with you Len. So frustrating to be crawling toward a nice Billy Goat and all of a sudden the damn birds start flying around. They have no place in the game, IMHO.Radamus wrote:That's it! Re: Status Update - 1st March 2018
To be honest..... One day when I was hunting elk and wolves in a tree stand to the south east of the TgT east starting cabin....Some ptarmies flew around my tree stand and the size compared to the background ones on every map and the flapping noises they make made me feel like I was really in a tree stand. It was a great experience but there's only one spot on the game where you can get that. Besides the ones on TGT you can easily max them out spawn mashing with a .22, even on TgT there's a couple nice spawn mashing places.....after that there's really no fun in hunting them. I like shotgunnin the runners when I spook some I didn't know I was running up on but as far as hunting them, pfft, forget it. I'll max em out and quit killing them. You know the species sucks when they aren't ever gonna release a competition for it They are literally smaller than the rodent rats that spawn that you can kill but have no value. Would be nice if they added that flapping sound to each ambient bird noise, really added to the simulator experience sitting in a tree stand with birds doing circles around your stand that you can hear.stancomputerhunter wrote:I'm with you Len.
