I always look at the cloud patterns when I spawn, over time I've learned to predict quite accurately which spawns are most likely not to deliver any rain (or a dark day).

So that's why you have all of those 11 min hunts? I'm a rain masher..I do the same thing..if it's not clear, I quit and start over, but only takes a few seconds.
