Leaderboard Kill Map *** Update - 4/07/2015

Post by tbug »

**************************
The latest kill maps can be seen at the following link. This is easier to keep updated plus you can mouse over any kill to see the hunter name and score. It also links to the score sheet. Added Bushrangers Run and Non Typical Whitetail.

I have been arguing with myself if a leader board kill map would be useful. I won. That's the best part of arguing with yourself. You always win.
One could argue that more kills occur close to a lodge since a lot people start there and quit before traveling far.
One could argue that more kills occur in open areas due to increased visibility. One could argue any number reasons.
Useful or not, the maps do look interesting.

I started with Logger's Point. The kill points may not be 100% accurate since the program that created them used a trial and error scale to
plot the game coordinates into the map image.

Here are the top 200 trophy kill points. Note that there should be 200 points for mule deer in Logger's Point since that is the only reserve for
mule deer. There will not be 200 points for whitetail since not all top 200 trophies are from Logger's Point.

Added Red Feather Falls and increased the sample size from the top 100 to the top 200. You can see some hot spots for black bear and black tail deer.

This is absolutely fascinating. Your work is greatly appreciated, thank you.

My personal wish for an exciting application would be an interactive map that scrapes through (or uses an API should one be made a available) hunts and builds a heat map of kill locations, but that has a slider to populate the map based on time of harvest from start. That way, you can not only see where animals tend to start, but also how they spread by dragging the slider (and thus exposing animals that were harvested later and later). Probably should only include animals that die from one hit, and lung \heart or spine shots to reduce runners.

While something like that sounds cool, in my opinion that would give away way too much information for the players. Soon enough you might see people figuring out the exact spawn locations patterns = give even more power to the tent boys and make the whole game/experience a lot less interesting and exciting...
