So turns out it runs at leas to some extent using Steams little SteamPlay feature. I have an issue with my mouse though. Someone on the ProtonDB site said use gamemode. I have no idea what that is.
Just thought I would throw this hail marry out there before heading to work today. Anyone? The issue is the Logitech gaming mice seem to not like to cooperate. Wouldn't you know, I just got one.

Re: CotW on Linux mouse gamemode Steamplay
So to get Logitech gaming mice to work with CotW using Steamplay all you do is sudo apt install gamemode and then in your start parameters for the game put "gamemoderun %command%" without the quotes.
Worked for me.
I still am hacking around to find out how to get my mouse to actually use its sniper button function in Linux, but that is a different issue.

Re: CotW on Linux
Oh. D'uh. Set the buttons in Windows and they carry over.
I forgot to experiment with my mouse preset button. Apparently it went to default presets in Linux and I had to cycle through them to find the one I am used to.
