So I bought CotW (and got refunded few days after)
Hello guys,
sorry for a bit of rant, but I would really like satisfying answer/expalnation/advice and need to let off my frustration...
I bought CotW on Steam, after I abandoned Classic (found the direction game is heading really disappointing, but thats besides the point). I also wanted to buy all DLCs and I am happy I did not. Installed the game, double-clicked the icon and... nothing happened... Tried it again, restarted computer, re-installed the game... nothing. And I was using MSI laptop, i7 7700k, GeForce 1050, ... So I really hoped it would run smoothly.
After some research I found out that this is pretty common, that game does not work at the beginning. And I also found lists of things you should do/check for game to start. Even one that was official. The problem is: I tried nearly every thing on that list, but nothing. And things I did not try were... re-installing some windows c++ redistributable or something like that. And don't get me wrong, it seemed like an easy task, but... I am not a pro in computers, quite contrary. All I know is that that software is essential for many other steam games (that install it by themselves on the first start, so why not CotW?). And I am scared that when doing so, I will mess up with my other stuff installed. About that c++ redistributable: On my laptop, I have like 3 2015 versions. Should I uninstall them all, or which one?
What sould I do?
Don't get me wrong, I just don't get that lazy approach from devs: Rather than fixing the issue, thay release list of possible fixes that is quite confusing for people who are not IT specialists.
So I asked for refund and fortunately I got my money back, now I am in period of waiting it the issue will get fixed or at least somehow adressed.
Thanks
PS: Sorry if Steam forum is for topics like this one, but for me, steam forums are extremely messy and I can't make sense of them

it sounds more like a windows issue than a game issue. what are you on win 10 ? any redists you need to make the game run would be with the game install.
most common things that wont make the game run is antivirus/firewall blocking it starting. in-correct resolution. win 10 is a shed load of weird issues.if you cant get a game to run id be looking at your windows installation first.dont go messing with things if you not sure what you are doing. game should just install and run.

yeah id suggest turning off any firewalls and "verify integrity of game files" will download anything missing or repair/replace anything thats corrupt
right click on game in steam library
properties
local files
verify integrity of game files
ive always found steam to be pretty bullet proof and that sorts 99% of any issue i every encounter.
just out of interest whats got you moving away from classic and towards cotw?. probably opening a can of worms but im curious because ive been hearing that allot lately.
hope you get it working bud

Re: So I bought CotW (and got refunded few days after)
Hello guys, and thanks for answers.
I tried to verify game's data and also turned off antivirus and firewall
One of lists I tried to follow was this one: https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/ ... me-crashes and only two points I did not check were points 5, 8 and 11. I suspect I could not follow 8 because my game never actually started so the corresponding folder/file wasn't created. Points 5 and 11 are womething I don't feel comfortable to mess with. But as I said, I have other steam games that installed c++ redis and other required programs on the first stars, so I don't get why CotW doesn't do the same.
EDIT: I had only few days for experiments and then I had to travel bact to Prague for another month, so I decided to ask for refund rather than to have unplayable game.

I don't know if you run any 'over lay' programs like Fraps automatically, or even steams overlay (found under your library general settings for the app) but I've had these types of overlays stop an application from starting. Especially Steams.

I did not have such software running and I tried to turn-off steam overlay

I find that the PS4 version (I play on PS4 pro) is brilliant. This game is really adapted to play on console. Besides the landscapes are very beautiful. Doubtless one of the most beautiful games, today, for PS4.
Ps : i have the pc version also. But I do not play it any more since I bought the PS4 version and since I can settle comfortably in my armchair for playing.

Are you using windows 10? I find it much more user friendly. Yes it happens sometimes you need to manually install new c++ redistributables but it was more common in windows 7 or windows 8. I can´t recall having to do it yet in Windows 10. Not sure how much testing is done on the game on older op systems by now. There is some I am sure but doubt it´s priority one.
Sounds plausible it´s something about that or if the laptop 1050s have specific drivers different from the desktop versions. Laptops offer bad performance particularly relative to price but hopefully you will be able to run it at low or medium settings if you get it to run.
