injury system not credible ?

Post by ehr_kimahn »

I really appreciate COTW. However I wonder about the game's injury management system.

I missed several shots (bow or rifle) and every time I found the animal dead a few minutes later. This seems to me completely unrealistic. animal death seems deliberately accelerated even for non-vital injuries.

Do you have this same impression ?

I just recently started playing CoTW again; the newest patch with rabbit hunting looked fun. In any case, its better then it was! It used to be that what should have been a vital hit would get stopped by bones etc & turn into a massive tracking session. So much so that it wasnt fun & I stopped playing. Now it seems much better IMO.
I would say it is probably easier then it should be to kill the animals.
Last night I was trying out the recurve & accidentally shot a doe through the nose (she turned her head as I released & the arrow went through her snout instead of into her side). She ran about 150yds before expiring. IRL that would most likely not have been an immediately fatal hit.

I guess it comes down to a trade of realism vs fun. You have to ask yourself, would you rather have a lengthy tracking session for a bad hit or collect the animal after a much shorter tracking session knowing you didnt deserve it. Personally I would prefer the latter.

I find it frustrating, because on the contrary, successful shots find themselves less rewarding (we can shoot no matter how the result will be the same at a few points). In thehunter classic, I sometimes did not find my prey after more than 20 minutes of track. In my third example I think it's too much, because the arrow barely scrapes the animal. Yes, it is a choice, but that could be left to the player by the creation of an "expert" mode which would make the game more realistic*.

but it's true that I like spending time on this game, which relaxes me :D

(* especially since AW said that when it release, it was the most realistic hunting game ;) :? ).
