The retriever should have a "retrieve mode" command that can be turned on and off. Whilst on, the retriever collects game continuously, and stops when you turn it off.
This way, when you want her to fetch 20 birds it requires 1 command and not 20. And if you want her to stop after having fetched 10 or however many birds you can do so.

Re: Retriever mode
I can think of three reasons why I would not want the dog to be on a collection roll:
- If waterfowl is coming in, I don't want the dog out there, preventing the birds from landing. He need to be in the blind then. I am very cautious of the times I send the dog.
- I may want to give a treat after each collection to increase the level faster (30% bonus each time).
- I may want to exchange the dog if too tired in the middle of collecting.

I did mention the ability to turn it off.HooCairs wrote: - If waterfowl is coming in, I don't want the dog out there, preventing the birds from landing. He need to be in the blind then. I am very cautious of the times I send the dog.

Then you can use the existing 'retrieve one' function. But again, you can also just turn off the retrieve mode as I originally suggested.HooCairs wrote: - I may want to give a treat after each collection to increase the level faster (30% bonus each time).

Re: Retriever mode
E.g. I press F9 to turn on retrieve mode. There are 10 birds to be collected. She starts collecting. At the 5th bird I either
- hear birds coming in
- want to give a treat
- want to swap dogs
so I press F9 again to turn off retrieve mode. Is that clear enough?

Re: Retriever mode
Makes sense and might actually be rather simple to implement.

Re: Retriever mode
I hope this is read and approved of by a dev...because as retrievers currently are, the ducks are easier to collect by yourself, without a retriever. If such a retrieve mode was implemented though, retrievers would actually make waterfowling life easier. It would be a worthwhile purchase.
Currently, to be honest, using a retriever feels like more of a chore compared to running around and collecting ducks on your own.
