Not only would the Interaction help with regaining stamina but to bring the dogs spirits into a happy mood.
Sometimes that little boost of interaction is enough for the dog to go full throttle again.
So petting or voice rewards could do the trick.
Remember a dogs spirit can over-ride its weaknesses just as with humans also.
And it wouldn't really matter if spamming only worked to a certain degree of a dogs stamina or focus. A happy dog is a stronger hunting dog.
It seems as if it is in a beta mode and the players are the testers.
Like, throwing a toy and the dog would regain a small amount of stamina while fetching instead of losing it (without the xp-reward ofc). Would also look super nice in MP, watching players having fun with their dogs ^_^
