British Reserve

Postby 22SAS_Wimp » November 14th, 2018, 5:27 am

Hi all,

I would like to suggest a new reserve based upon the British countryside. From babbling brooks and hilly moorland, to woodland trails and duck-filled ponds, it would go back to theHunter's roots of greeny-foresty-meadowy reserves like Whitehart, Logger's and Settler Creeks (which means you (the Devs) wouldn't need to create all the assets from scratch like the more recently and drastically different reserves like Whiterime, Piccabeen and Bushranger's Run). I suggested "brooks" and "ponds" because we have other reserves that have rivers and lakes, so maybe the difference (thin streams instead of wide rivers) would be refreshing.
Since we already have Summer, Autumn and Winter reserves, maybe this one could be set in Spring (March/April, based on the species suggestions to follow), meaning you could also sell new Spring Field and Spring Forest clothing.
I think it would be cool if, just off the huntable area (so the player can't reach - it's just in the background like the Redfeather Falls waterfalls), there was a large manor house (maybe even Laura Francese's place!), implying that we're hunting on some rich aristocrat's estate (maybe the reserve could even be called "Laura Francese's Estate").

The species I would like to see on a British reserve are as follows:
Red Deer, Roe Deer and the new Fallow Deer; Mallard Duck, Gadwall Duck, Northern Pintail Duck and the new Eurasian Teal Duck; the new Greylag Goose; Pheasant; European Rabbit; Red Fox; the new European Badger; and, if you (devs) want a challenge (:p) the new Gray Squirrel - the smallest species huntable in the EHR and first that climb and must be shot in trees! (If that's too many species - 12, counting each individual duck - then maybe drop the Red Deer, Red Fox and one of the ducks.)

I like the idea & think I would enjoy hunting such a reserve. Species list looks good but I doubt the squirrel is manageable as a tree dweller anyway. The way they have the game setup with LOD would be a nightmare making squirrels works without making the trees static objects which would play havoc for people on old PCs. No reason they couldnt be on the ground though I suppose.

Sounds great, but when I think of a British reserve I must automatically think of autumn and driven hunts (pheasant, partridge, ducks & woodcocks) :D
So EW....hint, hint..... ;)

Doc may enjoy an English reserve. Just imagine the queen appointing him sheriff of the queens wood and having us drawn and quartered for illegal hunting of the queen's deer.

Since I suggested spring time, the open areas would probably be full of Buttercups, Daffodils, Daisies and Dandelions, which would mean the Spring Field Camo would need to be quite yellow I would think.

I also think that part the border of the reserve would be the wall around the manor house with the unreachable house visible through the gate.

And just outside the gate would be one of the reserve's lodges, suggesting that the land owner (Laura Francese, assuming that's what we go with) likes to socialise with, or probably even hunts with, the hunters from time to time.
At this lodge, I would also like a Clay Club range that has both a DTL Trap like at Logger's & Whitehart, and a Sporting Range that has 4 or 5 traps launching clays in other directions (not just "away from the shooting" like DTL, but more side-to-side) at random. Just outside the Clay Club, it would also be nice to have a long strip of flat land so that the player can setup their own range using Deployable Targets.

I purposely avoided suggesting Autumn because we already have "fall" maps and Spring would be a unique change. ;) However, some of us already have the Fall Field and Fall Forest camos, so at least it would save the players some money. :D I did think about Partridge, and Grouse as well, but I tried to limit the number of new species so that the Devs would find the less work appealing. XD However, it seems adding either a Grouse or Partridge model would only be a variation of the already in-game Ptarmigans, so... *shrug* …maybe.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'm not sure how well chasing foxes on horseback would translate into the game - wouldn't the noise of the horses just perpetually spook the foxes to the point where we never catch up to them? IDK.

I thought about suggesting that the reserve was Doc's estate, but his real name "Colton Locke" gave me the impression that he was American.
I like the idea of this reserve having a species that we're not allowed to hunt though. If not as an interesting game mechanic that forces us to visually ID our targets more-so than any other reserve, it will also make the game world feel more real, in that there are more species that exist beyond those we get to hunt. If we're going with a "Queen's animal" idea, it would have to be Swan though. :)
