Water

Post by Lucky »

I recently had a chance to check out Picabeen Bay on a comp. I really love the way the two running water streams worked there
what is the chance of adding to all of the water features ? :) RFF I would really enjoy maybe a little slower flow. And would greatly enchance
other reserves as well. I know the editor in DH2005 had that ability so I know with the advanced program of TheHunter it would be possible.
I know some will say it don't add anything to the play but it sure does add to the authenticity of the experience. :P

It was proposed and was answered that they would do it, about a year ago.

Problem is Lucky, that laying water is not a simple skill to learn. Even in the 2005 editor it took a lot of time to learn how to mix 4 layers, shape the patches, adjust the speeds and opacities and set the heights and terra form the river beds correctly. The last two seem to be what they are still struggling with the most. There are several river beds on P.B.B. that have invisible water that can be heard, where the water appears to have been placed, but has ended up below the terrain and is not visible. They either dont have enough time or they have given up and dropped it in the "too hard basket".
Have you noticed that all the lake, river and sea waters in the preceding maps are all set at the same levels, and they have simply pushed the terrain levels down to be at the same altitude wherever water is present. They have never been able to develop individual bodies of water at varying altitudes. Whether that is a constraint inherent to the engine, or a lack of understanding of the water tools, is an unanswered question.
If authentic looking running water is ever going to come to theHunter, E.W. will have to set aside some resources to develop a specialist water programmer or employ someone who already has the skills..
