Competition Changes

Postby Kiraya1987 » September 7th, 2018, 8:59 am

Hello, sorry for my poor spelling.
I'm fairly new to this game, but after 2 weeks of playing I have few observations: (probably nothing new for more expirienced players)

Most of the competitions are based on luck of spawning the high score animal (In 2 weeks I've earned 4 trophies and 100em$, so I'm lucky). It's more like a lottery then a competition. In order to make it more competitve I have some changes:

1) Attempts should refer to the number of submitted animals and not number of spawns:
- NO MORE KILLING Everything that moves
- Even with 20lv spotting there is 90% scoreing, so luck still is involved
- Hunters will look and kill only the best prey
- More spawns = more chances for better animal, limited by 48h time limit (can be reduced to 24h or 36h, but more often competitions)

2) More skill based competitions(how animal was killed):
- In-game mechanics gives Trophy Integrity, and Harvest Value- now useless
- Add 100% Trophy Value as a requierment to all competitions (maybe not LONG RANGE? lung/heart shot from 500m is too much)
- More difficult, but sharpens Marksmenship, (even if you spawn TOP DEER, but You kill it poorly you don't qualify for competition)
- we all love animals and don't want them to suffer, right?

3) Rewards for lower places
-For example: 4-5 10em$ | 6-10 100gm$ | lower 5gm$
-More participants competing
-You have to score something to get 5gm$gm$
-Sure: Hunters will participate in every single competition to get 5gm$, but You can't buy TOP GUN with it, just supplies so no harm there

Welcome to the forum Kiraya :)

1) The attempts were introduced to prevent players starting many short sessions in hot spots until a large animal shows up. This is referred to as "spawn mashing" and was a big debate for many years, until the attempt system was introduced. You can read more about it here: http://news.thehunter.com/status-update-26

2) For this purpose the harvest value was introduced, but in my opinion it wasn't implemented well. You only get 100^% for instant kills. By that mechanic, it is better to blow an arctic fox away with buckshot than to shoot an elk properly in the lungs with a bow. Ethical hunting is being punished with a harvest value below 100%. EW realized its flaws already and maybe this is the reason for not adding more such competitions. Unless they fix this, they better don't add more such comps.

3) Awarding more em$ means people spending less real money on the game.

Thanks :D

1) I get the idea behind "Attempts", but my problem with it is that if somebody is lucky, he can spawn 1 very high score Deer on his 1st spawn and other hunter won't spawn even similar Deer thruout all his 10 Attempts. It takes me like 2h walking/running to check all locations at Whiterime Ridge for Moose and Bison and still I probably won't find 50% of the animals spawned since they travel from place to place. More attempts would give less lucky players more chances. Definitly not infinite number of spawns, just more. 20-25 per 48h competition. Limit on the number of submited animals would be good aswell. Let's say 5 ? Hunting is more of a stalking of proper pray then going on a rampage and killing everything there is. So if there would be 5 animal limit. Players would have to avoid low score animals, and even after finding 210-245 Moose still observe his Rack if it's high value or not.

2) Proper Harvest Value is difficult to get, but I think that every single animal goes down from a heartshot. Now I'm trying to kill Bison with .300, and all I get is leg shots. I have to work on my aim and angles to avoid those. That's true: even a well placed lung shot gives animal like 30-60sec of running but HV is still 80+. Maybe it should be 100 if animal goes down with 1shot and inside 30sec timeframe, and start droping after that?

3) I'm not a paying player, I rather earn my em$. I could invest some real $ in better scope and high power rifle and it would definitly be easier to get that heart shot on Bison but there's no fun in that ;-)

Good hunting !!

Sure. And you can be that lucky guy. , Luck plays always a certain role. However over time it comes down to how much time you spend in total. The more you play, the better your chances.

Yes a heart shot will always be an instant kill in this game. The bison however are easiest to shoot from the front. Run up to them and stay 20-30m out. They will face you and attack head down. When they stop in front of you, you can easily shoot them in the brain with any permitted weapon. Many times you will hit the brain and often additional organs such as the heart. HV is always 100%. If they hit you, you were too close. :D

If you look at this session (I just did this today, didn't have to search long) there are two bison in there both with brain shots, one with the heart also. Shot distance always 5-10m.

I need heart only shot from at least 75m for competitiion so this tactics won't work, but well aimed shot from the front should do the job, thanks

Ah, I see. Well the .300 might be difficult. Do you own a scope with a good zoom? In any case, good luck! :D

Only 3-9x40mm Rifle Scope, but 5.5-22x will be the first thing I'll get :D

Bison are kind of hard to get in the heart, up front the head covers the area and make hard to point at the heart, from broadside you may end hitting a lung but the heart is so small and the animal so big that is not easy task, i try to shot them when they are facing towards me but not directly but in an angle that expose the area where the heart is, now that is tricky because Bisons tend to move a lot and in circles, i advice you get a .340 Weatherby + 5.5-22x scope, you can take down any large animal from very far with that, at least is what i use when dealing with Bison, Water Buffalo, and the other large animals.
