Put lynxes on trees

Post by _dfad_ »

I suppose the following improvement of behavior of a lynx:

- At the beginning of the game, some lynxes are placed on large branches of trees instead of walking around.
- Lynx on a tree does not move and does not flee on a minor noise like a regular lynx does. It can meow probably, or keeps silence - just it would be much harder to find in the last case, so we might need additional cats.
- Lynx on a tree jumps down and flees, then behaves like a regular lynx, when one of the following happens:
- sound of a shot or a whistle
- a hunter looks directly to animal eyes (like through optics) at <100m distance - like doing that being in front of the animal +/- 45 degrees.
- Lynx on a tree can't be identified with bare eye even when too close - you need to use a binocular or to aim a weapon, even with iron sight. This makes the next point possible:
- Lynx attacks a hunter in a jump if the hunter is near the tree and looks the opposite direction, and no other hunters are nearby.

This wouldnt be realistic behaviour to lynx and it would be too much of a punishment to players. You currently need to use first aid only if you made a mistake of falling off a cliff or going near a dangerous animal which happens rarely if player is paying attention to the screen (not alt tabbed)[excluding silent piggies]. Strolling around hemmeldal and suddenly being killed by a cat hiding in a tree is not good idea gameplay wise, might aswell make it so during thunderstorm in PBB player has a low chance of being struck by lighting. And then theres the question if its even possible do code something like this in the game, and at what cost, of breaking existing things.

Lynx works fine as it is now even tho there are some bugs related to it, keep in mind lynx was introduced as hard to hunt species and very elusive.

There were discussions about squirrels a few times and one time a developers said that the trees are not fit for them.

If they did this, they would have to do this right, with the lynx move around in trees. Actually I would see pumas much more fitting for this scenario.

Lynxes neither hunt from trees nor they attack people unprovoked. All stories about such attacks are nothing but urban myths. There's no reports about such attacks in Russia for example and that's where minimum a half of world population of Eurasian Lynx is.
