Re: New Rifle for New Animal
Wow. 500 thingsperthings* for the .308 air rifle, when a .308 cartridge has around 3000.
That .308 air rifle delivers less energy than a .22 hornet
Not my preferred choice when hunting dangerous big game
*weird non-metric unit for energy

You should watch what an Air Force Talon/Escape/Condor .22LR or .25 can do to a Varmint (Rabbit, Prairie Dog) Is astonishing, Drops a Coyote on the spot (.25) check videos on Youtube, a friends owns a Air Force Escape (.25) and the Air Force Texan it's a Beast!! (.357, .45 and .308 caliber)Knut wrote:Wow. 500 thingsperthings* for the .308 air rifle, when a .308 cartridge has around 3000.

There is quite a difference in size and mass between opossums, weasels, raccoon and other varmints as opposed to big game such as water buffalo. Bottom line, let’s keep the little air rifles for the small game.

Re: New Rifle for New Animal
I found that video really disturbing for some reason. I know it's how people hunt bears with dogs and I mean no disrespect to those who do it, but for me it's just completely unbalanced to shoot a bear out of a tree like that. I just wouldn't feel like I had outwitted the bear and earned the kill. I'd feel like I was shooting cans at a fairground. Aside from the fact that shooting at something that size with an airgun, no matter how powerful it is, just seems wrong. It's clearly a good bit of kit and I definitely wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of it, but I just wouldn't pick that tool for the job, ever.mapache01 wrote:Hunting Black Bear with 45 Caliber Air Rifle

I did read your post, and the following. And I still stand by my statement. Leave the air rifles for small game.mapache01 wrote:Did you read my previous post? here's again some pics and why is called BIG BORE AIR RIFLE, and Coyote it's not a soft targetBucksNBuffalo wrote:There is quite a difference in size and mass between opossums, weasels, raccoon and other varmints as opposed to big game such as water buffalo. I agree with BnB. I would never consider an air rifle for big game, even though they seem to work. Gunpowder for me.

Well, I guess if done right, you could bring down a buffalo with throwing knives or a slingshot.
Just because it can be done doesn't make it a good idea, though.

Ok. Someone will bring this one up eventually, but Walter D.M. Bell shot over 1000 Elephants with his 7x57 Mauser.
