"Scout" scopes are long/intermediate eye relief scopes mounted forward of the action and ejection ports of rifles to allow emergency loading. They are restricted to low magnifications (usually 1-4x or 2-7x magnifications) since the field of view is limited by the eye-relief; that is offset by the quick-handling of such rifles. Conceptually, scout scopes are no different from handgun scopes aside from parallax settings and recoil tolerances. The scout scope configuration allows certain firearms previously unable to conventionally mount rifle scopes over the receiver other optic options.

If implemented, the classic military rifles and lever-action rifles will receive great benefit from having another scope option. For the sake of consistency, the magnification would be a 2-6x with either a 32mm or 42mm objective to match the handgun, shotgun, and rifle scopes. If possible, perhaps retaining the peripheral view, like the Aimpoint red dots, could add to the full experience of having a longer eye relief but I am aware that the handguns don't do this :? .

Primarily affected rifles:
  • (classic)Mauser K98k 8x57mm
  • (classic)Lee-Enfield Mk.III .303 British
  • (classic)Mosin-Nagant M38 7.62x54R
  • (classic)Springfield 1903 .30-06
  • (lever)Winchester 1894 .30-30
  • (lever)Winchester 1873 .30-06
  • (lever)Marlin 1895 45-70
What do you guys think?
