Community-made Comps

Post by AveryW88 »

Howdy Hunters,

Well, the new schedule begins its infiltration on the 24th of June. We have a stack of new comps in our in-house testing, but we'd also like to give you guys the chance to write some of your own, if you feel so inclined. You will of course get the contribution credit on the comp's page.

Why new comps? Let's face it, doing the same thing over and over can get a little dull, never mind the insanity thing. The old comps won't disappear, new ones will be added to the roster for some variety and an increase for some animals or comp types.

How it works

You can submit single comps or a pack. A pack needs 1 Distance comp , 2 animal Score based, and 2 Weight based comps. They can have a mix other parameters to make them interesting (detailed below) or no extras at all, but these three options are the only competition scoring options. Try to vary the difficulty if you can, we know that animals have their own challenges when hunting them.

BUT you don't need to submit a full pack. Bear in mind though, 10 Weight based Reindeer comps aren't all making it in at this stage.

Do also try to name your competition. Names might change, we understand that you don't have a list of ALL our competitions, and that won't remove your comp. It makes comps easier to sort through and attribute correctly if they have unique names rather than a dozen named "New Comp".

We will look for conflicts but try not to fall into the trap. By conflicts we mean parameters that are impossible to have together. So, a comp that demands the use of a tree stand but then asks the hunter to be prone while shooting. Or setting a Highest Score scorer but asking the hunter to harvest animals without a score.

:!: If two people post the same competition, the first one will get attribution. We'd like everyone to read the thread and avoid duplicates, but hey, we're realists here.

:!: Renaming a current competition with no other changes will not count.

:!: Copying someone else's post and renaming the comp will not count.

:!: Post your comp/s before July 21st.

:!: Yes, July 21st. That's not a typo.

Competition Scoring

Weight, Score and Distance are the only options we have available for the competition scorer.
They can be used as Lowest (or closest for distance), Highest (furthest for distance), and Average. Average is calculated over a 2 or more animals. The figures can be taken from the highest, lowest, all or first few animals harvested.

Available Parameters

You can mix and match these, but we do recommend not going overboard with them.

 Weapon - Specific weapon, ammo or type.
 Hunter Pose - Prone (lying down), Crouched, or Standing.
 Fur variants - We will check that the animals have the available variants stated, but please do check on the Wiki that the variants exist before making a comp based on these.
 Platform - Tree stand, Ground Blind, Tower, Shooting Tripod Rest or none allowed
 Total Number of Animals - Restricted (e.g. from your first five animals or your first harvested animal) or unrestricted (Total over a single hunt, for instance)
 Species - You can submit multi-species comps, but this is for the regular comps which are typically pretty short. Plan for something that can be accomplished over a weekend.
 Organs - Shot placement to Brain, Heart, one or both lungs, Intestines, or to not hit a particular organ.
 Single shot - Animal must be killed with one shot.
 100% Harvest Value
 Animal State - Unspooked (as in not running away from something), Fleeing, Charging, Idle, Sleeping
 Gender - Male, Female or unrestricted
 Points - Only applies to antlered deer, such as more than 6 points or less than 12 to restrict entries.
 Minimum Values - While only one Scorer can be used, another can be used to restrict entries such as minimum or maximum distance, score or weight. So your Scorer can be the heaviest animal/s shot from more than 40m.
 Reserve - Hunts can be restricted to a particular reserve instead of any where the animal is found.
 Scope - Scoped or Unscoped shots. This can also be limited by a specific scope.
 Note that all birds except Turkeys only have a score if they are shot while airborne.

If you're unsure about something, ask.

On that note, Forum users are pretty good about being respectful to others, please keep it that way. You may of course offer suggestions or critiques, or point out that the comp already exists, but be respectful about it and be constructive. "That sucks, idiot" or "Why would you make a comp about that, I hate that animal/parameter/whatever" is not constructive. Such comments will be summarily deleted. Do it twice and your entries will be removed. Don't make us ban you. This cuts both ways. If someone has made a respectful suggestion, respond appropriately or don't respond at all.

If we don't use your comp, it's not personal, and it's not a reflection of your talents. The cut off has to be somewhere. We are not giving precedence to anyone, all are equal.

Now, boilerplate: By submitting your comps here you agree that EW has the right to choose your suggestion and create a competition based on it OR decline and not use your suggestion as the case may be. You also understand that EW does not need to give a reason for each decision made.

That's it. Have fun.

Example comp:
Name: Interesting Title Here
Animal: Moose
Reserve: Any
Scoring: Heaviest Weight
Desc: Your heaviest female Moose shot with a Rifle from more than 40m.

Right, here's my question: Can CSS be used as a scoring criteria for multispecies competitions to give all species more of a similar importance within the competition? It would be "score based", but requires a bit of extra calculations of course...

I don't believe it's something we have in place right now, and I'm not sure how long it would take us to implement that, but we are willing to look into it.

Competition name: Herding Cows

Id love to see more competitions for low and medium score animals, to have more variety in what you're goin for in a hunt. So it would be nice to see a lowest score competition for every animal that doesnt have one already.

In the same vein id like to suggest competitions for medium sized animals, especially for the antlered species. For example:

Comp name: Mule Deer Mediocrity
Animal: Mule Deer
Reserve: Any
Description: Highest scoring Mule Deer under a score of 140 wins the competition.

Of course the same title could be used for other species too (Blacktail mediocrity up to a score of 120, Roosevelt Elk mediocrity up to 220 and so on).
This way the average animals, that we are usually not too excited about, would get a lil more value and its fun to guess if an animal is close to that mediocre score, just like the guessing games during the community streams.

Okay so I love timbergold trails and I have always wondered why no changes are done to the comps for the species on that map so here goes nothing.

Competition name: Rocky marksman
Species: Rocky Mountain Elk
Scoring: Harvest the highest scoring Rocky Mountain Elk from over 50m at 100% harvest value with any vertical bow.
Weapons: Any vertical bow.

Competition name: The hunter becomes the hunted.
Species: Puma.
Scoring: Harvest the highest scoring Puma with any vertical bow under 30m.
Weapons: Any vertical bow

Competition name: Don't make a mule of yourself.
Species: Mule deer.
Scoring: The combined weight of your heaviest Mule deer doe and Mule deer buck, each may only be shot once.
Weapons: Any permitted

Cometition name: Locking horns.
Species: Bighorn sheep
Scoring: The combined score of your two highest scoring Bighorn sheep.
Weapons: Any permitted.

Competition name: Blonde moment.
Species: Grizzly bear.
Scoring: Harvest the highest scoring blonde Grizzly bear.
Weapons: Any permitted.

Competition name: Stick to the ground.
Species: White-tailed ptarmigan.
Scoring: Harvest the highest scoring White-tailed ptarmigan with any vertical bow, must be airborne.
Weapons: Any vertical bow.

Competition name: Use your head.
Species: Grey wolf.
Scoring: Harvest the highest scoring Grey wolf with a brain shot using any vertical bow.
Weapons: Any vertical bow.

( Just a side note. My actual in-game name is Kudu_hunter11 but I couldn't log in on that account for some reason on the forum so I just created this account )
