The mission winner has been chosen, but it's a tight race in the competition category, we can't decide between three contenders. The results will be announced in the next status update.

Duck Missions by Tanngnjostr

Duck Missions by Tanngnjostr

Mission intro:

There's plenty of hunting opportunities, but this country clearly lacks places for the hard-working women and men to enjoy the fine arts. I promise that those philistine times will soon be over! We're planning to open the first opera house of the EHR and perform pieces like “Duck Quixote” (fighting the windmills of Hirschfelden) or “The Hunchbuck of Saint Perdu”. We've already found a decent orchestra and an ambitious stage director, but we're still desperately looking for talented singers! We need your help to find those delicate voices that will finally turn our project into a huge success.

Mission 1: First audition

Description: When it comes to singing, there's no alternative to birds. Ducks in particular! Look for areas that they are frequenting and commit them to become part of our cast. The swamps of Rougarou Bayou should be a good starting point. There's four duck species and we need to find them all!

Objectives:
  • Spot a Mallard.
  • Spot an American Black Duck.
  • Spot a Northern Pintail.
  • Spot a Gadwall.

Mission 2: The soprano

Description: The Northern Pintail will be a vital member of our ensemble. You can recognize it by the elegant shape of the tail feathers, the light body with the dark wings and – most important – the distinctive high whistle. Don't forget to bring the right caller, because those ducks will not react to an ordinary mallard quack. Sopranos are special...

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne female Northern Pintail.
  • Harvest an airborne male Northern Pintail in the same hunt.

Mission 3: The baritone

Description: With its mellow and dark voice, the American Black Duck is the perfect vocalist for all those intense scenes of suspense and emotions. You need to show some respect and take it with an adequate shotgun. Throw in a few Mallards for a powerful crescendo at the end!

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne American Black Duck with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.
  • Harvest another airborne American Black Duck with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.
  • Harvest another airborne American Black Duck with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.
  • Harvest an airborne Mallard with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.
  • Harvest another airborne Mallard with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.
  • Harvest another airborne Mallard with a 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun.

Mission 4: Sprechgesang

Description: The last of the pack is the Gadwall. This slim liƩle bird seems to be more difficult to find and convince – the agent is said to be quite picky. But its individual style of half singing and half talking is exactly what young people nowadays like to listen to. So when you hear high-pitched shrieks and constant babbling in the skies, get ready! Shoot it from up close to be sure it cannot escape – a Gadwall short range caller might come in handy.

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Gadwall from a maximum distance of 20 meters.

Mission 5: Backing vocals

Description: It's time to get the background choir wrapped up. tif course we will be looking for a mixture of voices and we will need a lot of them – you cannot perform “Turandot” with just a handful of ducks. Artists are sensitive, so don't hurt them too much – I'd prefer if you chose a smaller calibre. And we're in a hurry, so you will have to sign those contracts in a single hunt.

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Mallard with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun.
  • Harvest another airborne Mallard with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Mallard with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest an airborne American Black Duck with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne American Black Duck with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne American Black Duck with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest an airborne Northern Pintail with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Northern Pintail with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Northern Pintail with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest an airborne Gadwall with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Gadwall with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Gadwall with a 20 GA semi-automatic shotgun in the same hunt.

Mission 6: Resonating bodies

Description: The background choir is ready now, but we still need to audition some birds for the leading roles. Of course the most powerful quacking can only emanate from the most massive bodies – it's time to find the “four duck tenors” of the Bayou.

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Mallard weighing at least 1.2 kgs.
  • Harvest an airborne American Black Duck weighing at least 1.2 kgs.
  • Harvest an airborne Northern Pintail weighing at least 1.0 kgs.
  • Harvest an airborne Gadwall weighing at least 1.0 kgs.

Mission 7: Bird rights

Description: We have received an official complaint filed by the “Union of non-duck birds in the EHR” - they feel discriminated because they were not considered for our opera project. Our legal advisor is ready to slam that complaint, but he recommends we should at least listen to all of the bird species to preserve appearances.

Objectives:
  • Register an audio clue of a Mallard.
  • Register an audio clue of an American Black Duck.
  • Register an audio clue of a Northern Pintail.
  • Register an audio clue of a Gadwall.
  • Register an audio clue of a Canada Goose.
  • Register an audio clue of a Pheasant.
  • Register an audio clue of a Turkey.
  • Register an audio clue of a Rock Ptarmigan.
  • Register an audio clue of a Willow Ptarmigan.

Mission 8: Silencing the critics

Description: Art critics are trying to bash our show before it has even started – it's a tough and mean business! We need to get rid of them. Beat them at their own game – do it when they feel safe and have their back turned to us.

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Mallard with a single shot using a shotgun from a minimum distance of 45 meters.
  • Harvest an airborne American Black Duck with a single shot using a shotgun from a minimum distance of 45 meters.
  • Harvest an airborne Northern Pintail with a single shot using a shotgun from a minimum distance of 45 meters.
  • Harvest an airborne Gadwall with a single shot using a shotgun from a minimum distance of 45 meters.

Mission 9: Dress rehearsal

Description: It's time for our last rehearsal – no safety nets, no unnecessary props. I kindly ask you to remove your blind from the stage (at least don't use it any more) and shoot with a weapon that doesn't interfere too much with the show. Still… if you hear an actor singing off-key notes, be ready to fire him!

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Mallard with a .22 pistol without using a tower, stand or blind.
  • Harvest an airborne American Black Duck with a .22 pistol without using a tower, stand or blind.
  • Harvest an airborne Northern Pintail with a .22 pistol without using a tower, stand or blind.
  • Harvest an airborne Gadwall with a .22 pistil without using a tower, stand or blind.

Mission 10: The premiere

Description: The big day has finally arrived. We're sold out and the galleries are slowly filling. The ensemble is
warming up, cheerful quacking coming from the catacombs. Unfortunately there is talk of onlookers without tickets trying to sneak into the show. You'll have to take them out, but be very very quiet. No gunpowder please!

Objectives:
  • Harvest an airborne Duck (Mallard, Northern Pintail, American Black Duck or Gadwall) with the .22 Air Rifle.
  • Harvest another airborne Duck (Mallard, Northern Pintail, American Black Duck or Gadwall) with the .22 Air Rifle in the same hunt.
  • Harvest another airborne Duck (Mallard, Northern Pintail, American Black Duck or Gadwall) with the .22 Air Rifle in the same hunt.

Mission set finished in-game popup text:
The show has been a great success and our audience is demanding an encore. Thanks to you our opera house has had a very good start. Performing arts and culture have finally arrived in the EHR. I'm really looking forward to our next project: “Swan Lake” (this time with Canada Geese).

Duck Competitions by waiora

Duck Competitions by waiora
Author’s note: Species: Mallard, Gadwall, Pintail, American Black Duck
Aims of my competition set: 5 Competitions that provide the player with a fun but challenging experience. With the duck species being limited on weapons and all of them being scored based on weight, I focused on making the competitions as diverse as possible using various requirements for the harvests, gender , weapon restrictions and equipment like sights.
Difficulty: 5 competitions scaling in difficulty from 1 to 5, 1 being the easiest.
The 5 competitions listed from easiest to hardest.

1 – Duck Pairs
Harvest the highest scoring Male and Female pair of each species using 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun, your competition entry will be the combined score of your 4 pairs.
(The easiest of my set of competitions featuring the classic Blaser O/U SG)

2 - Red vs Iron
Harvest Male ducks using a 12GA Pump Action with red dot sight, and Female ducks using a 20GA Semi Automatic. Your competition entry is the total weight of all ducks harvested.
(An easy competition that promotes shooting as many ducks as possible)

3 - Fantastic 5
Harvest male ducks for each species using any weapon, your score will be the combined score of your 5 best Mallard, 5 best Gadwall, 5 best Pintail, 5 best American Black ducks.
(Another to promote shooting many ducks but slightly more challenging because it requires players to start spotting males, especially when a flock break more than once)

4 – Shooting Blind
Harvest the following ducks with each respective weapon without using a scope : Mallards with 12GA SxS, American Black Duck with .22 Air Rifle, Pintails with .22 Plinkington and Gadwalls with the .22 Grasshopper. Your competition entry is the combined distance for the longest shot on each duck species harvested only with its respective weapon
(Long range competition that will cater for more experienced players, the difficulty is high because all shots will be obscured and without a scope, this should make it much more challenging)

5 - Unspooked 8
Harvest 2 unspooked ducks for each species, you competition entry is your combined score of those first 8 harvests.
(I made this unspooked to prevent players from letting ducks land and spotting them, It’s still possible to spot them in the air but that makes it considerably harder to pick out your good ones, that combined with only first 2 harvest per species makes this the hardest competition of the 5.)

Species: Mallard, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, American Black Duck
Weapons: Any permitted
Scoring: Smallest difference after subtraction of combined score from the limit. Tie break: Heaviest Gadwall
Special Requirements: Results from several attempts cannot be combined. Result must always be achieved in one single hunt.
