Yes that's weird.I had the same thing happen. Can't really explain where the % loss happens as you shot 1 of your Yotes in the liver and still got 100%.
I assume the .300 is just too strong for the Dogs.
I also dropped one of them at 223 m but the scoresheet wasn't showing anything ... still had 100% HV on that one :?
That is exactly what it is. I used the 7mm Raptor/Bullpup for my first yote, dropped it in it's spot at 42m and only got 65% HV. Switched to the 7mm-08 and was getting 100% HV at 150+m, but the bullets seemed to like the liver too... I think in my next attempt I'll go with the 243 or 223, won't get good distance but will get 100% HV, I hope. I might even go with the .17 HMR. Getting 100% HV on the yotes and getting a good distance, is what makes this comp a bit of a challenge. So the big score to beat is 480+- good job Splainin'. ;) Respect,

BCKidd.
Ahh.. so THAT is the secret to 100% HV - only hit heart/lungs? I didn't know that. Either that or do it like Faultier and simply scare them to death by shooting right next to them!
I guess "Permitted ammo" is not necessarily "best ammo". I did hit my first one almost head on, so that makes sense it penetrated too far. I'd like to try this again to get all three at 100% :)

Harvest value is determined by two factors. One is how long the animal survives after it has been shot. Obviously if the animal runs at all, even 1m, you won't get 100% HV. You need to drop an animal on the spot for 100% HV.

BUT, even dropping on the spot doesn't matter if you use too big of a caliber at too close of a distance. Just because you can shoot a coyote at 10m with a .300 legally doesn't mean you should. That big caliber at that close distance would likely cut a coyote in half in real life. But a .300 caliber at long distance, say 150m+, becomes acceptable because the further the bullet travels, the less energy it will have and the less damage it will do. So there is an invisible math out there for every animal in the game where you need to find a balance of large caliber and distance to not "destroy" the meat and hide. That's why your closest shot coyote lost HV%, it was shot too close with too big of a caliber. The same shot with a smaller caliber like the .223 or a .243 would have given you 100% HV, or a longer shot with the .300 would have given you a 100% HV. Notice that your longer distance coyotes dropped on the spot AND gave you 100% HV. It was only your closest shot one that didnt.

Brought all the rifles i could carry but ended up giving the .300 another shot and the distance was the deciding factor.

Well this mini comp didn't go my way. I did make 2 attempts, but luck just wasn't one my side. :( I need bigger critters to shoot, without having to find their teeny, tiny, little hearts. I can get the one shot dead, just no good at finding the heart or the lungs for that matter. Guess I need more practice.
Oh, well. It is what it is. 8-)

Wowsers! Nice snipin' fellas. I'll have to see if I'll have time to do another run before this one ends. The .243 is adequate at 250+m I guess, jus' have to be in the right spot at the right time. Oh, and what is even weirder check this out... btw nice NT Faultier. ;) Respect,
