No worries, anything that goes under "Platform" in the B&C Scoresheet- is NOT allowed! Yes, the white knuckle syndrome is quite thrilling- 'cause you know it is your last attempt. Anything you mess up Dq's the expedition. It can be devastating! Make sure you have something nearby to punch! Good luck, with your last attempt... Respect,
BCKidd.

Spoiler:
I found myself getting punchy near the end, and knew if I tried for one more bear, I'd end up missing and getting the whole hunt DQ'd. I was NOT going to let THAT happen! I chased and shot the only two male bears I found the entire time. I didn't see where the RoE said "Males Only", but the females were all so small I chose to ignore them. I knew I needed to try and get the biggest animals possible. So, I'm ending with "a" score... I'm not pleased with it, but it is better than not finishing, and especially better than not even trying! I can say "I did it".. along with getting a 1000gm$ Daily Mission done, plus with my last shot I got my rifle up to Level 7, too!

Good Luck to any one who has attempts left and are a sure shot, I know I'm not. Also, is it just me, or did it seem like the critters knew about the 50m rule. I'd get them in my sights and they would walk towards me. At one point in my 4th attempt, I had four bulls surround me within 30m and then scatter. Many curse words were spoken as one bull was 400kg-500kg, or at least that is what the huntermate predicted. Anyways, it was a true challenge of patience, which I have none. I did have fun. Thanks again BCKidd.

Wonder if we'll see a 2nd moose with over 600 kg before it ends.
Someone must have warned the big guys that we are coming for them.
Maybe they went on a skiing-trip to whiterime.
I was there once in between the attempts and the first thing i saw , leaving the lodge, was a 611 kg bull

Oh, I think BCKidd tipped the critters off about that, for sure! I can't tell you how many times that last bear I was stalking suddenly showed up too close, backtracking on itself or something. There were quite a few times I was surprised it didn't charge and kill me! And after all that, I still couldn't manage to get a decent shot at it! This one was definitely harder than last year's Classic Rifle Comp, when we could use a scope and it was just "no misses" instead of "1S1K". But, a challenge is what makes us improve...Smokin1 wrote:Good Luck to any one who has attempts left and are a sure shot, I know I'm not. Pro tip time.Smokin1 wrote:Also, is it just me, or did it seem like the critters knew about the 50m rule. I'd get them in my sights and they would walk towards me. At one point in my 4th attempt, I had four bulls surround me within 30m and then scatter.
When it comes to any kind of distance related competition, there is an incredibly useful tool in the store that I believe is often overlooked by many. Once people own all the callers, they seem to forget that scent lures exist for many animals. Obviously there's none for the bears (I have a separate tip for them, if desired), but the moose, elk, and blacktail all have a magical spray that makes them stand in a place of your choosing for several minutes at a time if you so desire. Call them to get them heading your way, and then when they're about 100-150m away and committed to coming, spray a couple squirts of scent in a clear area of your choosing, approximately 50m away from another clear spot or a rock that has direct line of sight.
I say a couple squirts because get this, the spray attracts for 10 minutes real time. But once an animal that is attracted to it arrives at it, they will only stand there at the lure spot for about 30 seconds to a minute regardless of how much longer that specific squirt is effective for. A single spray will only attract them for that short amount of time and then they'll walk away to leave or go to the position you last called from. But if you spray multiple squirts in the same spot, once the lure of that first squirt wears off, they will continue to stay in the exact same spot because they are now attracted to the second squirt, and etc. If you use several squirts, you can literally make an animal stand still in one spot for multiple minutes at a time. The only downside to this method is if an animal stops behind a tree or rock, that's where he'll stay.
To alleviate that risk, I'll usually use 4-5 squirts all within a 3m diameter circle. If the squirts are in the exact same spot, the animal will stay in the exact same spot. But if you move each squirt very slightly, the animal will also move and readjust slightly to reach the next squirt when the attraction of the first wears off. So you can make it so the animal will move only very slightly, which helps if you're in a heavily forested/brushy area. Obviously with that method you now risk the animal moving the moment you shoot, but with practice, you can get pretty good at guessing when the animal is going to move from one squirt to the next.
The second method (squirts in sightly different spots) is also helpful for making an animal turn. For example, if a bull moose stops at the first squirt and is perfectly broadside, but you know for a fact that a broadside double lung shot with a .405 at 51m won't instantly drop a moose (*cough*), then him standing in that position won't help you at all if you're not familiar with the moose's oddly placed heart hitbox. But when he moves slightly to go to that second squirt... he'll usually change his angle to you as well. Maybe the second squirt, or the third, he's now facing you straight on and you can now easily shoot him through the heart and drop him on his face for the fate he deserves.

Gotta love those pro tips! I knew (sort of) how to use the scent sprays, but I've never seen how to use them explained so well. Of course, the OTHER part is remembering to put them in your pack before you head out, so you have them avaialbe to use in the first place!
Multiple squirts.. great idea!

Yes, great tips, "Squirting" tho' geez that could be taken so many different ways... and a double at that . I figured I'd jump on that before someone else does. All jokes aside, yes, scent lure "spray" is a must have and should be in everyone's gear, when they head out. Plus, it helps if you know how to shoot an animal, so it drops dead instantly. That is the tricky part, hit boxes lie. You would figure the .405 would drop a moose at 55m easily. Was that monster nerfed? I have dropped Moose from 100+m., with it in the past as well as Water Buffalo. Respect,
BCKidd.
