I found a black bear today with 23,897 points, but after a while I had another one with the same weapon. https://www.thehunter.com/#profile/trop ... n/81120284 A very demanding competition, I never paid attention to the color of the black bear's fur and it is difficult to distinguish.

Just wanted to throw my own thank you in here for the host. This was a great idea for a competition and I've been enjoying it a good bit. I've made two attempts so far and each time I've gotten lucky and made the right calls about which bears were which color. Now if only I could find some bigger specimens. This competition has definitely helped me hone my skills with IDing the variations... but trying to tell the chocolates from the normals is brutal! I read an old post from BnB about the normals having light spots above their eyes and the chocolates not having the spots but that hasn't seemed to prove true for me yet.

My bad then. All weekend trying to distinguish furs, i came to that (wrong) conclusion about the common ones.

Hah, if only it were that easy. This morning I shot a chocolate that turned out to be a common. It looked chocolate from 150m away, it looked chocolate from 75m away, it looked chocolate from 30m away, it looked chocolate both in sunlight and shade, and it still looked chocolate laying dead on the ground from 1m away. I would have bet my very last em$ that it was a chocolate bear ..and I'd be completely em$-less right now. Mhm.

I have to say, big thanks to JackRbbt for hosting this awesome comp!
I still couldn't make the Royal Flush deck but I having so much fun time!
I hunt some chocolate bears and I told myself: "this will be a common, so I just need one glacier to make the Royal Flush!" But in the statistics, it wrote "Chocolate".
Maybe they are changing color after they dead?! Because almost in all of my shots, I was sure that will be a common!

But, thanks JackRbbt. I have so much fun with this comp!

Seeing how people are having a hard time identifying the different types of black bears and how INTIMID883R just loves a smartass, I decided to trek through the cyber forest of google and found some bears willing to take a pic for you to use as a guide to help you identify what you all are looking at.

In all honestly and I hope TK see this and can relay the message, the EW artist missed the boat on this one.
Common Black Bear – notice how the fur is all black

Chocolate Black Bear– notice how the fur is all brown

Cinnamon Black Bear– notice how the fur has a reddish tint to it

Glacier Black Bear– notice how the fur is gray

Blond Black Bear– notice how the fur is like a condensed milk looking color
