Render Distance

Post by SoftShoe »

I know this has been discussed before but I see numbers bandied about that animals render between 200-250m. In my own experience I have watched numerous deer disappear right at about 250m.
Is there a difinitive word on what the actual render distance is?

The reason I ask is I happened to stumble upon the range leaderboard & see guys taking game in excess of twice what I thought the render range was. How is this possible?

Because the higher up you get, the further the render range. So if you go to a place like Sniper's rock in LP you can see the animals further then you would flat on the ground.

At least this is how I have always understood it to be.

Interesting to watch. IMO thats gaming the game something I'm really not interested in doing (no judgement, just not my thing) so no range leaderboards for me :D

I appreciate the insight!

To elaborate, render distance is exactly 220m, horizontally. i.e. the render space is a cylinder with a 220m radius.

Animals coming toward you, or you toward them, will appear at 200m. going away, they will disappear at 220m. This prevents them from flashing in/out of render when they're on the line.
It's "Tod", with one bloody 'd'!

Depens on the terrain.
I've seen animals render in as close as 170m before.
I have over 1337 kills with my Longbow at 100% kill rate.

Was flat instead of hilly terrain which can = more render distance when looking down.
As to why the animal rendered 170m instead of the normal 210-220m who knows.

Hypotenuse

This is the formula commonly used to determined the distances , of an elevated shot. You will see this used , in those long , over regular render distance, comps .
