I don't know, I guess if you launch through steam you can see the in-game activity and I think you can somehow see the activity over a time period, never checked. I think a lot of people come and go, new players and obviously the good old fan base that will never leave. I think I'm almost at 2000 hours played and I'm still engaged by this game. Thehunter franchise does need constant income, they are releasing new content almost every week. You look at other big AAA games, once they get everyone to buy it, it's expansions, loot boxes and other microtransactions they stop developing it and start making the next in the series of games and start the process all over again

i watch the player numbers quite regular steam suggests about 1000 daily peak this week 1134 that doesn't take into account webside figures aswell.so add a few hundred maybe there.often when new content is out that number doubles for a short period.the exact figures you will never know without accessing the data.
i think there was about 30 people working for the team at last count but that changes frequently.30 professionals need paying.so as you can imagine that isnt cheap.the team seem to balance it well though and still going after 9 years is a real big achievement.

Go here: http://steamcharts.com/search/?q=thehunter
You can see COTW has 1,200+ active players while Classic has a all time low of 336 active players.

Wow that's actually low, memebership costs roughly around 3-5USD a month, even if we round up to 1000 active players since they obviously don't all play at the same time, that's only 3-5K USD a month from memebership sales only

Well if you look at the charts from Classic February 2017 that's where the player base started to decline and nearly cut in half from people converting to COTW over the months.Graidlyz wrote:Wow that's actually low, memebership costs roughly around 3-5USD a month, even if we round up to 1000 active players since they obviously don't all play at the same time, that's only 3-5K USD a month from memebership sales only

Re: How much active players is there in the game?
The morning (European time) is usually the time with the lowest activitiy, same in the forum. The peak usually is at 2100 CET with around 1000 players in the last few days. Then there's also players not using Steam. Also be aware that a lot of players are paying, but not playing every day. It's difficult to interpret the Steam numbers, but there's one thing I'm sure of: If it wouldn't be good business for EW, they'd probably turn off the servers and move on to another project.
But yes, it's a niche game, and that's probably the reason for the pricing model. I can't imagine dumping almost 1000 € (in around 3 years) into any other game.

Poor TheHunter Primal though, just 40 active players at the moment.
That game had GREAT potential.

Re: How much active players is there in the game?
That's not exactly true. If you look at YoY numbers, you'll find that Classic has the same decline in summer months every year, and that YoY is right where it has been historically. The only difference this year is that there was a higher peak in the time CotW started being marketed up through about a month after their release. You read that right: CotW marketing & release actually INCREASED Classic's gamer count above their historical numbers during that period, almost hitting the same numbers as the all-time peak achieved when moving to Steam.Ravenousfox wrote:Well if you look at the charts from Classic February 2017 that's where the player base started to decline and nearly cut in half from people converting to COTW over the months.Graidlyz wrote:Wow that's actually low, memebership costs roughly around 3-5USD a month, even if we round up to 1000 active players since they obviously don't all play at the same time, that's only 3-5K USD a month from memebership sales only
