Anyway, nice idea but in my head no matter what you come up with mountain 1 is Oprawca and 2 is Sugarloaf.

Exactely, why not keep (at least) "Oprawca" as the official name for mountain #1 ?

We were thinking about it at one point, but Oprawca means "torturer, executioner" in Polish, which we didn't find appropriate for Val-des-Bois and EHR in general.

I tried to climb that mountain and it is a real torture.
So the name is not going misguided.

Looks like we need the same now for HF, Hemmeldal and RB as well, doesn't it?

It was somewhat of a tradition that the community would come up with names an NAOutdoor was doing the maps with all details, names and special POIs. Unfortunately, EW decided to ignore all that and change the numbering of the towers, thus rendering the NAOutdoors maps rather pointless, which somehow stopped the whole process. For HF, there was already a pretty detailled plan worked out:

Mountains / Hills
1: Mont Grand Molaire
2: The Devil's Teapot (Named by EW)
3: Mont Garnison (like a garrison / ****-cutter hat)

I like quite some of the suggestions, but I feel there are way too many English names for a reserve that is named in French.

Typical French namings would include words like e.g. for mountains "Mont" = mountain", "Dent" = tooth, "Aiguille" = needle/tip of a tower, "Pointe" = tip/point, "Tête" = head, "Grand" = great/big, "arête/crête" = ridge/spine, "Col" = saddle - just to name a few

In this spirit, I suggest a few names:

Mountains
6: Tête Crevacol (the head crevacol -no real translation possible)

Lakes
4: Lac Trou Noir (Lake black hole)

Glaciers
5: Glacier longue (the long/extended glacier)

Areas
6: Arête Vieux (the old ridge)
8: Tisanière de Diable (Devil's teapot)
10: La Mouille éloigné (meaning the remote moist depression/trough)
11: Col Sombre (The Dark Pass)
18: Cuvette Relevée (The High or Afternoon Caldera/Chauldron -a geaographic description for an amphitheatre-like mountain range)
19: Plan de la Chaux (Chalk Plains)
22: Forêt de Brocard (Young Deer Forest)

However, I do understand that this name is not too fitting for a game. But why not continue with an old alpinistic tradition and allow the one who first climbed or encountered a nameless peak to choose a name?

I suggest:
Grande Eau des Bois (literally big water of the forest)


I also would love to see some of the passes/trickier passages named. In a mountain map, those landmarks would surely be named.
I therefore made some additions to the map in bright green:

Since possibly >50% (or let's say "a lot") of the players only harvest instantly killed animals and don't track the wounded ones,
the name "torture" or "torturer" is very appropriate, don't you think ?

Unofficial maps should be allowed to have unofficial names. If EW wants to make maps themselves they can name it whatever they want.

It's a good name for a mountain. There are a lot of mountains with evil sounding names like mount Diablo in California.

Knut, good point. I think it would be good release the map with both English & French names.
I assume all of the English selections can be translated to French as well.
