Noob Spotting Question

I hate the spotting mechanic in this game it's completely unrealistic. Having spent years bird watching, which is a lot harder to ID than large game, when I see a deer on a hill through my bins at 150m as clear as day I should get the spot and NOT have to walk a couple of meters forward because "I'm out of range". Sometimes I'm within 50m and can see the thing right in front of me, I know it's an elk cow but I need to stare at it for 30 seconds to get the spot.

On the other side of it, how many rabbits has everyone "spotted" when you didn't even know they were there lol
