I play the game with non-Steam version. But I update the game from steam then copy "Game" folder to non-Steam version directory.

But in this update after I did that, when I press start game button, Steam will open and I get this error on the launcher:

That is the exact thing that happened to me as well- same error when I went through "Steam" earlier. I've been D\L theHunter through theHunter website, started at 4:23 PM it is now 9:14 PM- that is 5 hours and 4 hours earlier when I tried the Patching through "Steam". So, 9 hrs and I still can't play the game. And I've probably used up a bunch of Data. With only 30 Gb/s alloted through my service provider, I use up way more than I care to say, with every patch. Very annoying and almost to the point of a major rant in this regard! :x :!: Not a happy hunter.

Yes, for the first time I'm aware of, the game executable from Steam and the Web install are different. This breaks the game folder copy workaround. Interestingly, the only file that is different is "theHunter.exe" which is only a small 13 MB file. All of the other files in the game folders are identical (all 4 GB of them). That one tiny difference is the problem.

If you, or anyone, wants a good copy of the Web version of "theHunter.exe", send me a PM and I can give you a link to download it from my NAS. Its a small 13MB file, and should take less than a minute to download. You would then do the Steam copy shown in the video first, and then replace the Steam version of "theHunter.exe" with the downloaded one you got from me. I've tried it and it works.

The only problem may be if your anti-virus quarantines the file because it's an executable from and "Unknown Source", namely, ME... :P If your anti-virus does this, it should give you an option to "trust" the file, but I'm only familiar with Norton Anti-Virus, so I'm not sure what it looks like from other anti-virus packages.

Of course, you'll also need to trust me, but hey....

I'd rather trust that Kim guy - you know, the one from North Korea, that big boy playing leader...

That is kind of you, Fletchette. You are gonna get a lot of PM's. I was able to finish the D/L through theHunter website. I gave it a go for a couple short minutes and it is working. As long as EW doesn't give us a patch to fix the patch, which they sometimes do, then I''m good until the next game patch. Peace.

So, instead of a decent size patch, i will have to download 5GB every week now? Why the change, as long as the web updater is not working? Not a cool move, EW!

Hello all!

In regards to the re-downloading of files after patching, we have now reverted this back, so it will work like it did before. You will now be asked to download a small patch from this morning and after that you will be able to exchange the files between the Web and Steam version again to avoid downloading several Gigabytes of data. We're sorry for the inconvenience caused by this.

The Stream workaround (once it works again) is certainly an option, but it only cures the symptoms, not the cause.

However, I wonder a bit: whoever uses this workaround must already have a fully working tH version on Steam - so why bothering with all the copy/paste afterwards, and not simply pressing "start game" on Steam - and play....

It doesn't make any difference for the gameplay from where the tH client is started.

You are completely right, my friend.
I'm a fan of Steam and theHunter is not the only game that I have on my Steam account. But I can't play theHunter on Steam after the free equipment DLC installed! That's why I use the workaround method. :(

5 pages of this......... again. For the love of god just drop the web launcher please EW the steam format is superior in every way. You dropped vista and XP and people got over it. you dropped min spec for TGT and everyone got over it

People obviously can't be left to make an simple decision for themselves so give them no option.

The development time and moneythat's been lost because people are stuck in their ways is obscene. The really irritating thing is that half of them play COTW! Or transfer the files from steam . So they're just straight up being difficult

As for your problem hossein, try verifying the game cash on steam. Takes about 2 mins but it will find or fix what's missing or wrong ( anothe helpful thing about steam)

The steam format is not superior in every way. I install and play on my alienware gaming laptop via steam but the 2 older HP laptops I use for my sons accounts are pretty slow so steam makes it run worse for them, almost unplayably slow. In addition, I don't want to have steam accounts for my 6 year old and 4 year old. My wife is ok with me getting hunter accounts for them, because thehunter has minimal gore and violence but seeing the steam store pop up with call of duty or some zombie game would likely send my wife through the roof and they wouldn't be playing anymore. My sons go grouse hunting with me IRL so my wife is ok with them playing a hunting game with me during the "off season".

Just because something works better for you doesn't mean the rest of us are just being "difficult". We are subscribers as well and some of us would rather drop our subscriptions than have steam forced on us. If enough people quit subscribing then guess what... no more game for any of us.

Thanks to Stefan and the devs for addressing the issue though. I'll have to try downloading again later.

1)if the steam app is slowing the game down noticeably, the hardware used must be damn near unplayable on min settings anyway. also on steam try the link below its mostly positive reviews and the general consensus from reviews and comments is if youre a low end rig user youll see a good improvment, medium end user modest improvment in places and high end next to no improvment. might be worth a read might be for you as its half price.

2)as for the kids do you know about steam family view?. customization parental care with a pin protection. you completely control what your kids see or do on steam.
