Hey, as Aussies we have to pay in US dollars... out exchange rate is bad meaning if I wanted to buy the $50 trail runner membership it would cost me $68 Australian, which is quite costly! can anything be done about this?

I assume you are talking through the website? If you are playing/purchasing via Steam you should be paying with local currency. That doesn't mean the price would be the same USD price, for example the bundle you are referring to is $54.99 in Canadian funds for me via Steam.
