I need GPU decision help!
I have an outdated setup.
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor 3.2Ghz
8GB DDR3 PC-3 10600U RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420 2GB GPU
NVIDIA HighDef Audio
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
I asked some people and they told me 1050 ti or the rx 550 or the 560. My thing is I don't want to bottleneck but would love to play thC on high and Cotw on medium or high.
Any idea on which card to go with?

By looking at those specs and checking for bottlenecks on http://thebottlenecker.com.
If you keep this cpu and get a 1050ti you will have a 15% bottleneck, which isn't too bad.
with that 1050TI you can easily play THC on high settings, COTW could give some problems because the card isn't that powerfull and is just budget
But to be honest, i would also upgrade the cpu if you want to play COTW and get a decent experience
Edit: I checked the current bottleneck which is 100% on the GPU, you will not do wrong with getting that 1050TI, but for COTW it won't be enough.

Re: I need GPU decision help!
what do you think of pairing the cpu with a 550 or 560?

Neither of those cards should create a CPU bottleneck. However, even the 560 is about 75% as powerful as the 1050 Ti.CHABL0 wrote:what do you think of pairing the cpu with a 550 or 560?

as much as i hate to say it id save up. your cpu isnt even minimum for cotw. if you cant wait id get a 1050 ti.you do need to upgrade the phenom though.

Get a new computer. That old hog has already given you all it got. If you dare you can find so much better on the used market even.

I had a phenom II x4 965 black edition in my old rig paired with a 4gb rx460 which is close to a 1050ti. I still had a lot of drops in classic with higher settings. CotW was "playable" on a mix of low medium settings with around 30-40fps.
The old amd quad cores are just not good enough for modern games.
I guess with with a 560 u can play classic on a mix of medium high without problems if u dont want to spend to much.
I suggest saving your money for now and buy a new system in the future.
Running a i5 7600k paired with a 1050ti now and cotw runs with constant 60fps on a mix of medium and high settings. Even higher settings are playable if i turn of global lighting and set fog to low, shadows to medium i get constant 40 fps with everything else maxed out. Classic is running at 90+ on max settings except for some parts in TGT and BRR that are just badly programmed imo. The CPU made a massive difference that i noticed immediately when i started the games on my new rig for the first time.
The Rig, even tho id still consider it low end compared to the stuff some people use here, runs modern Games like Destiny 2,Witcher 3, Shadows of War,Mass Effect Andromeda,Battlefield 1 with absolutely zero problems and good looking visuals. Even unoptimized trash like Ark is playable with decent visuals.
