new PC monitor ideas
im am getting ready to buy a new monitor for my computer. its overwhelming looking through all of the options online. i figured i would ask what you all would recommend. i would like to keep my budget at around $300 if possible.
my uncle just built me a new computer. i can try to look up its specs when i get home this afternoon if you think that would help. i know the graphics card is a Radeon RX480, but that is the only thing i remember off the top of my head.
my old monitor was a Dell ST240L. its a 24" monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. we got my 10 year old daughter a computer for x-mas and i gave her my old monitor since i wanted to get a new one anyway. in the meantime i have been using a cheap 32" off brand tv with a 1360 x 768 resolution. the picture on this thing is almost physically painful for me to look at. i can see all of the individual pixels in it. it just looks blocky to me and really bothers me while i try to play games on it. i do love the larger size of it though.
i was looking into maybe getting a 4k monitor. i would want at least a 28" screen. most of the monitors ive found were really expensive though.
the other thing i looked into was getting a 32" curved monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. i worry about being disappointed with the picture quality though. im used to 24" screen with the same resolution so i worry that a 32" one would appear pixelated in comparison.
my questions are: is the 4k monitor worth it? will i really see a picture difference or is it all just the same after a certain point? what would you recommend? i would love to get some input from others.

Re: new PC monitor ideas
I recently gave my 10 yr old Dell 24" monitor to my daughter. I gave it to her, because my PC has HDMI out and that old Dell, although it was 1920 x 1200, only had DVI in. I shopped around like you, and really want a 32" 4K Ultra screen. They cost too much, so while waiting for the Christmas sales in a few months I purchased a 32" Vizio with full 1080p ($207.50). I should have got one with a 120 refresh rate, but that will come with the new 4k Ultra. Anyway, it runs pretty nice on tHC with no pixelating at all. I want the better one too, but for now, this one is pretty good.
I'm running:
Win 10 Home Prem 64 bit
Intel i5 3570K 3.4ghz
EVGA Invidia GeForce 1060 6GB
16GB RAM

Many people, including myself, consider 2K (1440p or 2560x1440), resolution to be the "sweet spot" for a gaming monitors. There are a number of good 1440p monitors available in the 24"-32" size range, and the $250-$400 price range.

At ca. $530 it's significantly more expensive than the $300 budget you gave in your original post. When buying hardware components, I always recommend that people buy the best they can afford. So with that in mind, it's probably worth deciding whether $300 is your budget, or whether you're happy to stretch to $600, because the advice you get will vary greatly depending on your answer to that question.

How much is GPU important while buying 1440p monitor? Can I play for example some more demanding games with GTX 1060 6GB with app. same performance as with 1080p?

1080p (1920x1080) has 2073600 pixels.Ludante wrote:How much is GPU important while buying 1440p monitor? Can I play for example some more demanding games with GTX 1060 6GB with app. same performance as with 1080p?
1440p (2560x1440) has 3686400 pixels.
So 1440p (2K) has 1612800 more pixels (about 78%), than 1080p.
So it takes quite a bit more GPU power to achieve the same FPS. This isn't an exact methodology, but it's in the ballpark.
One way to make up for the lower FPS is that you can usually lower the AA with the higher resolution monitor, because it has so much sharper definition natively.

Thank you, if I understand correctly GTX 1060 should be enough for 1440p theHunter Classic but for COTW or BF1 I would need GTX 1070 or higher?Fletchette wrote:1080p (1920x1080) has 2073600 pixels.Ludante wrote:How much is GPU important while buying 1440p monitor? Re: new PC monitor ideas
I'd guess that's right.....If I turn off one of my 980's, and play with just one, with all settings maxed in Classic, I still get 60+ FPS at 1440p. Since a 1060 is fairly close to a 980, I'd say that's a fair comparison. I've haven't played COTW.Ludante wrote:Thank you, if I understand correctly GTX 1060 should be enough for 1440p theHunter Classic but for COTW or BF1 I would need GTX 1070 or higher?Fletchette wrote:1080p (1920x1080) has 2073600 pixels.Ludante wrote:How much is GPU important while buying 1440p monitor?
