Need help with upgrading my PC

Post by MetalMind »

Hi,

First of all, I'm totally lame about hardware, but I will try to give any info that I can.

I want to little upgrade my PC, so I will be able to play theHunter on higher settings. I don't want to buy newest video card or processor because can't afford it right now. I just want to buy hardware even 2 years old that will allow me to play the game in 40 - 60 FPS on high settings. Right now I play on 40 - 60 FPS but unfortunately I have to play on low scene complexity which make the game look little bad. I used to play the game on high scene complexity settings but when aiming the gun with iron sights especially in dense trees the FPS dropped even to 18.

So, I don't want newest - killer - machine, but just buy some newer parts than that I have now.

Here are my specs:

Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 45 °C
Yorkfield 45nm Technology
RAM
4,00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. G31M-S2C (Socket 775)
Graphics
Philips 226VL (1920x1080@60Hz)
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (CardExpert Technology)
Storage
465GB Seagate ST3500418AS ATA Device (SATA) 39 °C
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223B ATA Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

Maybe just upgrading my graphic card will do a thing? And is this even possible with that motherboard I have now? Any help will be appreciated :)

I will provide any more accurate info about any hardware if needed.

your pc isnt that bad.

op system is vista such a bad os. the only os i wouldn't use :D
few weak points are cpu speed but you could oc that cpu to get more speed but with decent gpu still play this game very well.
gpu little old now a decent mid range card would be a massive boost. or a decent second hand card.

depending on budget and psu quality and build . if you have a decent power supply then you could get away with just a decent gpu.

look at your psu label see the watts and 12+ amps and make/brand.

how much do you have to spend ?

Thanks for replying :)

"few weak points are cpu speed but you could oc that cpu to get more speed" what do you mean by "oc"? Overclock? ;)

Also, where I can find "psu label"? :)

I have about 80 - 100 Euros to spend.

PSU label will be on the psu itself.

GPU will be all that is needed, cpu ain't great but should do. Maybe look for the amd R7 250/260 series cards or nvidia equivalent.

Ahh, PSU means Power Supply Unit, just had to check it by myself in wiki - I just didn't get what were you talking about :) I will check it later and let you know :)

Thanks TOMRf5, but would be nice if someone recommend me an exact video card model that he can recommend it, not the family / series ones :)

I know that all, but something is wrong with my PSU plug in and when I make any manual moves on my PC sometimes it just shut down. Looks like a wire is broken or something. So to remove the side panel I always must turn of my PC first :D

Here are the specs of the PSU:

DELTA Electronics Inc.

AC input: 230V. Max peak: 400W.
DC output: 335W max.

Something else? :)

MetalMind that psu is really bad :D its a generic office psu im surprised you haven't had issues.

i would upgrade your psu to a decent brand before a decent card.

id look for a decent 500w brand psu and maybe a second hand card. if hundred euros is budget.
