Over anxious retriever

Post by Foxtrotter »

On occasion I'll have my retriever with me in the bush. This typically only ever happens after making a poor shot on big game from my goose blind which results in Hershey and myself stalking wounded prey.

Hershey will run back and forth, side to side in front of me at a full run even while I'm crouched, making a ton of racket and preventing me from ever catching up to my prey.

Does anyone else find their pup doing this?
(For the record my retriever is level 18)

For this reason I would like to see a dismis dog command

Yeah, retrievers are better suited for still hunting in a duck or goose blind. They run around like mad when you walk with them. The scent hound, on the other hand, is trained to heel.

Presumably your goose set up is close to your Tent.
Jamb him back in the tent and let him out again when you get back.
A bit of time out might do him some good.
Old hunters never die. They just sit around the campfires and tell the biggest lies.
