Napoleon Bonaparte, Why did he lose the War

Post by RidgeBack69 »

Was it destiny that he lost? Not really sure. Could he have avoided the fate? Perhaps yes, with better alliances accommodating them rather than pushing them into submission. But the kind of person he was and the political climate in Europe at his times, perhaps no.

He made the mistake all European despots do, he invaded Russia and was defeated by General Winter...... and never recovered....
My opinion may not be right, but it is the one I like most :D

Good point! "La Grande Armée" was decimated during Russian campaign and only 35,000 French (from more than 500,000) returned to France. Even if Napoleon rebuilt the army, the new recruits were inexperienced and never reached the level of cohesion and tactical superiority gave to veterans by 7 years of battles across almost entire Europe. 130 years later, Hitler made the same mistake.

Because he avoided to cross the Channel and launch a strong offensive on British ground and turned toward East. 130 years later, Hitler made the same mistake.

he launched a strong enough offensive on Hougoumout at warterloo at it didnt do the job. the fact is simply weather its an assault on our island itself or a dirty little farm house you can throw what you like at it if were in it, you wont get it. gotta be something in it if he and Hitler opted for the long walk to Moscow instead of a short swim across the channel :p

There once was a jolly old Brit,
Who said that there Europe is "S**t",
So they voted to leave,
Though they seek now reprieve,
And are mentally irrevocably split....

List of wars The English lost....
The 1st Boer War
Irish War of Independance 1919-21
1st WW (America won that)
2nd WW (America and Russia won that)
Zimbabwe war of Independance
also lost...
India
South Africa
Canada
Austrailia
etc etc etc... "Great Britain" is a SMALL isand in the Nort sea BUT.... they do make a good cuppa...

Greetings from an Irishman in Germany to all the jingos.... :D
My opinion may not be right, but it is the one I like most :D
