I agree it's really weak. This gun is one of those two I regret to have bought - besides .45 Colt. Just to many body shots at close range, even with an accurate broadside aiming.
Spoiler:
We pray our sights be straight and our aim be true,
We pray for no pain to the game we pursue.
We thank you, Lord, for this land,
We thank you for the sights from our stands.
We pray for safety one and all,
We pray we may return next fall.

Instant kill of a male alpine ibex from 163.71 m:

And an instant kill of a female from 137.29 m on the same hunt:

Can another handgun do this?

This handgun comes in very handy when I only carry short range/small game weapons in the first two slots, because I can take longer shots with it if needed.

Ok I did this little hunt just for testing some mins ago.

You can see I took down 3 Moose and an Elk with no problem. Most negative comments come from people who use it like a rifle. Error. It's a good pistol when used properly.

Also getting body shots at 20m is hunter's fault, don't blame the gun ;)

To be fair it does get difficult with boars and hogs. As the weapon often lacks the penetration to go through the skull or shoulder blade facing a hog head on after calling it is difficult because you just don't know were to aim. A broadside does work however on these as well.
Over all of course I agree with you.

Fits perfect for new reserve TT > elk, bighorn sheep, mule deer, grizzly ..and should later fit for wolves. Together with a bow and i have a "light" setup :D

Thinking of getting this gun as a panic weapon. How'd it do against a charging bear/moose?

Well, it'll spook it for sure! If you actually want to kill it, I'd prefer the .454 to be honest. ;)

Well, that was underwhelming. Especially for a pistol firing a rifle cartridge.

Just for consideration, I currently have a .44 magnum revolver. Would this be an improvement?

The .44 is not ethical for moose and the only bear you can take with it is the black bear. So definitely an improvement.

Regarding the .308, don't take my word too seriously! It can surely kill a bear or a moose if you aim properly, but the .454 is much better regarding damage imo.

I think of the .454 as up in the same class as the .45-70; not a lot of animals permitted, but hits like a freight train. Kind of overpowered, if you ask me.

Of course, there are some situations where there are no such thing as 'overpowered'. :)
