yeah great idea, a shotgun sabot is somthing we havent seen yet. +1 for this. also id like to see a tighter spread for its bird shot .make it harder to hit the target but more lethal at range when you do

There is a valid reason this gun can't shoot slugs. It's a Remington 1889, which can't shoot modern ammunition at all, and can't shoot slugs.

Yeah, I kind of doubt it has a rifled barrel too...Hawkeye wrote:There is a valid reason this gun can't shoot slugs. It's a Remington 1889, which can't shoot modern ammunition at all, and can't shoot slugs.

Well it's not black powder in game I don't think. Maybe an authentic remake like the buffalo rifle. so as long as the pressure was safe you could shoot slugs or solid round shot theoretically couldn't you? :/
As for the rifling, the current shotguns can switch between slugs, buck and bird with no mention of choke change or rifling so a bit of artistic licence and realism ignoring can be made in the intrest of fun

Re: Suggestion of ammunition 16 GA Side By Side
Older double barreled shotguns used blackpowder paper shotshells, and usually had one full choke and improved cylinder or modified barrels.
It's not wise to shoot slugs or sabots out of full choke barrels. Those paper shells only produced about 5000-6000 psi, as modern low brass produces around 8000- 9000 psi,
and high brass mags up to around 12000 psi. Does that it explain it that you wouldn't want to fire shells out of older barrels that weren't capable of holding modern shot shell pressures.
Widow maker!!!

This. These particular shotguns cannot handle those pressures. They often were made with Damascus steel, which could split apart if pushed beyond their mild limits. I'm pretty impressed that EW recognized this & left slugs out, to be honest.

Re: Suggestion of ammunition 16 GA Side By Side
My assumption is that the in-game slugs are rifled slugs, so they can be shot out of our smooth bore barrels. I was just pointing out that the OP is showing a sabot round, which is specifically designed to be fired out of a rifled sabot barrel. You'd never want to fire birdshot or buckshot out of a rifled sabot barrel because you'd ruin the rifling.L3M182 wrote:Well it's not black powder in game I don't think. These shotguns should be able to handle Brennekes, though as they were designed in the same time period.
